our jodi hernandez spent her day looking into the story for us and jodi. this comes after more than a dozen shootings in the past month. there. that's right, the city of antioch has had a rash of shootings, more than 15 shootings took place here in the month of september. many of those in the sycamore square area of town. and many of those incidents, numerous rounds were fired and one incident, 50 shots were fired. the antioch police department says it just doesn't have adequate staffing to handle the workload required to saturate those high crime areas. you may recall the department lost a lot of officers because of a police corruption investigation. so tonight, the city council will consider authorizing $500,000 to pay for immediate reinforcements. antioch officers would get paid double time and officers from outside agencies could get up to $200 an hour. now, one council member told me that he knows that that's expensive, but he says you can't put a price tag on public safety. while the city tries to figure out solutions. i know you got a chance to spea

in contra costa county, jodi hernandez, nbc, bay area news. we have a follow up on the firing of santa clara county superintendent. this is a story that we exposed this summer. two weeks ago, the board terminated superintendent mary ann dewane, but gave no clear reason as to why. prior to that, nbc bay area investigated complaints that while under her leadership, the county office of education misappropriated funds from the head start program, which is a federal program that helps low income children. dewine's attorneys filed a lawsuit saying the board had no right to fire her, arguing she's an appointed public official and not an employee. today, the board president says she's disappointed by dewine's lawsuit and says it will lead to needless costs and legal fees. the president says tax dollars are better spent on educating students. this wednesday, the board plans to address steps to appoint an interim superintendent, an about-face by university of nevada over whether to forfeit a volleyball match against sjsu over transgender rules. accordi

jody hernandez, nbc, bay area news. jury selection is now underway for the high profile trial of nina nina mckinney. he's accused of murdering former cash app ceo bob lee last year in san francisco. so far, cameras have not been allowed inside the courtroom. this video is from april of last year, after he was initially arrested in court today, mckinney wore a cream colored suit and sat with his team of five attorneys. they say they're hoping to find a fair jury out of the pool of about 140 people. this is the most important part of the case. you know, we want people that are going to be able to be fair and impartial, that are going to listen to the evidence and, you know, follow the rules. that's all you can ask for. bob lee was found by emergency crews outside the port side apartments on main street in san francisco last year. he had been stabbed three times. he was arrested about a week later. security camera videos show the two were together in the hours leading up to that stabbing. many potential jurors today said t
