but, you know, other politicians like joe barton, who was the chair of the house energy and commerce committee, a large number of politicians, sadly many of them on one side of the partisan divide, republicans in particular, whose campaigns have been financed heavily by fossil fuel interests and who are now doing little more than acting as advocates for fossil fuel interests. when it comes to the question of, you know, passing legislation to deal with climate change, that's really the scientization of politics that i was talking about. this idea that the underlying scientific evidence is just a political football to be contested as any other political issue would be contested. and there are politicians whose job it is to contest that evidence. when in fact, you know, that's not the way science is. there aren't two equally valid sides. there's a reason that the flat earth society no longer prevails in our public discourse, because they were wrong. the earth isn't flat. we accept that. gravity does exist. there are propositions in science. and, you know, i'll tell you, if there was a v

in april 2014, congressman joe barton said he was going to introduce major immigration legislation. the bill was never introduced. eric cantor, who just this week claimed that his position on immigration never wavered, said last year he was going to introduce legislation to -- quote -- "deal with the kids who did not break any laws and themselves came into this country, in many cases, unbeknownst to them." this legislation was also never introduced. finally, house republican leadership has repeatedly announced they -- quote -- "think we have finally have the policy right on immigration." but, again, we have seen no bill even introduced, much less voted on. house republicans are so afraid of immigration that they have handed the policy and leadership gavel to steve king, who compares immigrants to dogs and livestock and who claims immigration is a slow-motion holocaust. eric cantor is actually right that his position on immigration reform never wavered. his rhetoric was often pro-reform but his legislative and voting record was always anti-reform. cantor never introduced or voted for

sorry my colleague from texas joe barton is a good friend. epa does have authority to regulate co2 under the clear air act. it's important to remember four building blocks proposed by the rules are not the exhaustive list. the four building blocks are marrying a prescription for success. states are allowed to construct a plan that matches their needs and those of their affected communities. as i said before, the epa is legally justified regulating carbon. i prefer congress taking the lead in doing it. i believe as elected officials we have the duty to act on behalf of our constituents and regulate these pollutants. again, ms. mccabe, i'm sure you are aware epa and my home state of texas have some issues in the past. more than four years they were responsible issuing permits that caused significant problems for our industry looking to build and expand even new facilities. just this last week, the governor of texas along with six other state governors sent a letter to the president asking him to dispose of the carbon rule. it's my hope we will
