dish ceo joe clayton just talked to me about this new service they're launching called sling tv. whole new way to distribute tv content. $20 a month to stream 11 cable channels including notably espn and cnn. live sports and live news are two of the most important things to keep people locked into their cable tv bundle. $20 a month is obviously a lot cheaper than traditional cable tv. the big question that remains to be seen is whether this is going to get people to cut the cord and switch to the smaller service, which doesn't have broadcast tv doesn't have a lot of channels but it does have a couple of those key channels to see whether it gets people to cut the cord. >> both of us work for cable companies. media producers. obviously, this is something we've seen examined real closely in real time and that's changing real fast. what do you see as the first repercussion for other providers of tv content? >> reporter: it's interesting. this could have repercussions across the tv landscape, both for the other media companies as well as the distributors like dish. now, this could pot

dish ceo joe clayton thanks for joining us here from your booth. you made big news by announcing slim tv streaming video service $20 for live television including espn. are you worried this will kill your core business? >> i don't think so. i'm not in the 18 to 35-year-old age group which we are targeting but i have five kids at home. they are well educated. they are not geeg to pay for pay tv unless i pay for it for them. they are an ideal market. so we don't think it will lead to cannibalization of our core business. >> are you paying -- espn the crown jewel of the service. are you paying $5 to $6 that espn gets paid by traditional cable and satellite tv providers? >> they don't do it for free but we don't give out particulars of our contracts. suffice it to say that espn, the abc family and disney are the anchor. espn is the most watched station or channel in the 18 to 35-year-old age group. we are pretty excited about them being the anchor. >> we understand your partners like espn would have rights to raise prices or yank channels if the servic

. >> joe clayton is technically the ceo. charlie runs the company, but joe is the real ceo.er company and mobile video. the idea that the next wave of television is not getting video to your tv it is watching it on your mobile devices. that is what dish does not need to install a satellite that costs $800 plus per person, they can just need you 12 channels for $20 a month. this is the slow progression of the unbundling of cable. now i have my $20 a month dish service, with my netflix, my hulu and i can have $50 a month without a cable bundle. >> doesn't that get complicated? >> that is the cable companies argument. what about the pleasure of sitting on your couch, and watching tv. why can't you just watch "orange is the new black" and call it a day. >> one of the key issues is there is value in the bundle but not the value we are thinking about. it is really the broadband access the companies deliver. when you compare that with the video, it is a compelling offer. >> those who will continue subscribing to the cable bundle is not who dish is going after. they are going after

i want to show you this picture of good joe clayton, the dish network ceo, yesterday.e is the head of the marching band drumming up excitement over sling tv. will it live up to the hype? >> i think it's a pretty big deal. one of the issues for media investors is the fact that the tv bundle that the cable companies have relied upon for decades is starting to fray on the edges. we saw hbo a month or so ago decide to go direct to consumers with the internet and cbs the same day made a similar announcement and now we've got this -- dish coming up with a skinny tv package. it's 20 channels at a lower price point. they are targeting millenial's that say don't already subscribed to pay tv service. this suggests that it is not a cannibalization issue. many investors are concerned. >> it's really about espn, that's a big deal. >> you have to have something to anchor this product. you have to have a big channel and they have espn. will there be demand for this skinny pay tv package? if so, who are the incremental subscribers? >> greg and i are not core members because we are cer
