what advice do you have for joe biden? how does he run for president, the most political act of all in the midst of a pandemic? >> well, joe biden doesn't need my advice to know how to run for president. he's doing it, i think, in the most effective way possible, which is by listening to the scientists, listening to people, and giving good advice. he was early in january, saying we have to respond to this. two months went down before president trump did anything. so i think joe biden has already shown that he was aware of what we needed to do, he had the leadership, and he offered that leadership and public articles and public statements. the problem is today that the decisions that are being made are purely political. and this is not a political moment. i mean, i think that's the key here. it's just not a political moment. it's a moment of grave, very serious consequences. all over the world, countries are being hit by this. the united states has more people who are sick and is now up to 40,000 plus lives. and we still don't

joe, how are people reacting to this? >> there's a mixed reaction here. shows the conflict between the state government and some p local governments around here t dates back again to last weekend. california and parts of it were in the midst of a heat wave, with some places seeing above average, even record temps. so some cities and counties decided to open their beaches. in orange county, for example, tens of thousands of people descended upon beaches there. those images concerned some, including governor newsom, who came out and said, hey, the virus doesn't take weekends off. newport beach actually held a meeting this week discussing the possibility of closing the beaches down again, but in the end decided to keep them open. now we know governor newsom is expected to announce this afternoon that he's going to shut down all of the beaches in the state starting tomorrow. it's unclear how long it's going to last. in response to this, the police chief of newport beach put out a statement, along with some pictures he said his police department took during th
