county is reducing its environmental impact by turning to renewable energy energycbs 2 news reporter joe husinga tells us exactly how. how. the cedar county sheriff's office is going green by soaking up the sun with their newly finished solar array. array. originally it was designed to produce 75% of our needs it's doing at least that 8 expected to produce nearly 300 thousand kilowatts of energy each year now to put that into perspective in it's 35 year life span thats that same as burning nearly 5.5 million pounds of coal. 14 it's the right thing to do it's about leaving a better place for our kids. 4its also the right move for the county's budget the goal here is to provide clean energy for the jail, cedar county jail without any cost to them 6so to get the project rolling the county entered a power purchase agreem. agreement. we constructed it sold it to eagle point energy and eagle point energy is selling the power back to the county. 5 over the next 17 years the office will pay off the project at the price of their normal powerbill.when the array is all paid off the savings will sky rocket.
