on this probe which hopefully will land on this comet in the next hour and a half i am here with joe keeganpefully reaching this comet? >> reporter: well the probe should land on the comet around 7:30 our time because the comet is so far away from us, it will take a half hour for the signal to reach us and we will not get confirmation. >> you had the scale down model of the comet, from what you are telling us, we have 2. 5 miles across? >> yes, this is roughly the shape of the comet and temperature gives you an i.e. of what the city of oakland is. >> reporter: so it is making its way down and you have the other probe as well, how long will these instruments work together and work in tandem? >> well, they are working in tandem from the lander and both lander and the spacecrafter are doing their own separate science while this is all going on. they are scheduled to operate until december 31st and i suspect everything will go a lot longer and the comet is supposed to make its closest approach in august of 2015 and they will ride along with it as long as they can. >> and just how excited are yo
