i'm becky quick along with joe kernen. andrew is off today. germany's economy contracted for the first time in more than a year and france's economy stag nating again. the german ten-year, the bund is now looking at a yield of 1.016%. the euro at this point, which is the one to watch, the, as well, looks like it's trading at 1.3379. if you follow up with what's happening in the major european equity markets, you'll see some red arrows. in italy, things look down 1%. back here in the u.s., stocks are higher in three out of the last four sessions. at this pointed, the dow is now back in positive territory for the year. still, if you look at where we stood just a week ago with some of the concerns about what was happening, it looked like things were going to expire, but we're headed back there now. we'll see what happens as we get through to some of the news coming out today. we do have on our agenda this morning economic data and earnings from the world's largest retailer. at 8:30 eastern time, we have two reports. jobless claims and july import

i'm michelle caruso-cabrera along with joe kernen, who's back from vaca.cott walker is here as well. becky and andrew are off today. u.s. investors are waking up to green arrows to start the week, global markets getting a boost as the crisis in ukraine is easing. in asiana, the nikkei bouncing back up 2% from the 3% drop on friday. in early european trading, markets higher across the board. as you can see, we put moscow on the top, higher by 1.8%, but france, the ftse, the mib in italy and germany higher almost 1% or more than 1%. u.s. equity futures are falling along with that, suggesting that the dow would open higher by about 29 points. the nasdaq by 7, the s&p by 3 1/2. while the situation in ukraine seems to be calming down, we are following a very different story in iraq. it is both a military mess and a political mess. embattled iraqi prime minister nuri al maliki made his first public comments since the u.s. air strike, saying he will not step down. he says he plans to file a legal complaint against the new president for a "clear constitutional vio

i'm andrew ross sorkin along with joe kernen. becky's enjoying some time off today.e do have some breaking news to start the program off, though, this morning. sources telling us that dollar general making a bid for family dollar. it is now offering $78.50 a share in cash. that's about $9.7 billion. sources telling us that that offer being made this morning. we should be hearing about it a little bit later in the day, perhaps crossing the wires in the next hour. you should remember, of course, the dollar tree made a $74.50-a-share cash and stock offer back on july 28th. a lot of people had thought dollar general was going to come in with that bid. dollar tree came in with that bid instead. we should tell you, if a dollar general/family dollar tie-up goes through, the combined company would have 20,000 stores in 46 states, a total of about $28 billion in revenue. now, here's the important part -- the synergies on this transaction, which contrast to the other one -- and i know we're talking about dollar tree and dollar general and family dollar, it's confusing. >> doll
