i'm andrew ross sorkin with joe kernen. becky has the day off. our guest host is bob dahl.e's going to help us try to figure out what to make of this roller coaster ride in the markets. that's where we will go right now. let's get right to the markets after yesterday's crazy ride on wall street. stocks look to recover today as joe just mentioned. futures are pointing to a huge pop at the open but if yesterday was any lesson no one knows what will happen over the course of today's session. we should tell you the dow travelled nearly 5,000 points yesterday. that's not from top to bottom but throughout the day with nearly 3,000 coming just in the first 90 minutes. the blue chip index closing down more than 500 points for the second straight day and over the last three sessions the dow and s&p are down nearly 9% and the nasdaq is off almost 10% yesterday alone $685 billion is lost among market cap in s&p 500 companies. that's $100 billion more than apple's market cap. if they don't tell you enough about the volatility check out the vix. moving above 50 intraday for the first ti

i'm andrew ross sorkin with joe and sarah. right to the markets u.s. equity futures pointing to a higher open on wall street today after that huge rally yesterday as stocks snapped a six day losing streak to end at highs on the session. the biggest percentage gains since november of 2011. the nasdaq had it's biggest day since august of that year. closing up 600 points. something we haven't seen since the fall of 2008 though. the percentage gains are a little bit different. check out the blue chip index's roller coaster ride over the last week. then on monday that nearly 600 decline. another 200 point loss tuesday before yesterday's big surge the dow is still down though. more than 1% this week. but the nasdaq has narrowly erased this week's losses off by .2%. >> i was on the floor of the new york stock exchange all week and it's not just the crazy moves where we settle, it's the intraday volatility. everybody was bracing for a repeat of tuesday. they had this giant rally and it started to lose steam and everybody thought here we go again and then it ch

i'm becky quick along with joe concern nin and andrew ross sorkin.on't we get you caught up to speed starting with the futures here in the united states this morning. right now after all the declines we saw last week and by the end of the week the dow has lost over 1,000 points. you can see that those futures are indicated down another 312 points this morning. if we were to open right now the s&p futures would be down by another 32 points. the nasdaq looks like it would be down by 123 points. again, this is across the board some rough times. if you thought you were going to see a rebound this morning, it's not happening, at least not yet. part of the reason what happened in china. joe mentioned the shanghai composite plunging to a five-month low. it's now giving up all of its gains for the year. that decline of 8.5% that came today follows a 4% decline from friday. again, it has been rough. it has been difficult. we've been watching what china's trying to do. there is a general sense of not only a slowdown in china but also the idea that the chinese

ross is in astoria with the details. a.j.? >> reporter: joe, for now police aren't releasing the identity of the victim but he was found unconscious and on fire in the alleyway early this morning. investigators say he may have been shot. let me show you video from earlier today as firefighters and police quickly responded to a 911 call made here just off 12th street in astoria around 7:00 this morning. upon arrival, firefighters quickly put the blaze out but the victim was dead at the scene. first responders discovered a gunshot wound on the left side of his body. the medical examiner will have to determine the official cause of death. meanwhile, a neighbor that didn't want to talk on camera told us off camera that detectives took a copy of the surveillance footage that may have captured part of what happened. this is an ongoing investigation. police are asking anyone with any information to give them a call tonight. a.j. ross, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> a.j., thank you. >>> new jersey authorities confirm the body found at the bottom of the
