live in prospect park, joe torres, channel 7 eyewitness news. >>> a grand jury has indicted two nypd detectives on charges of assaulting a postal worker. karim baker said detectives angelo pampena and robert carbone punched, kicked, and dragged him last year. pampena is charged with perjury for alleging baker was parked in front of a fire hydrant. prosecutors say video shows the car was parked more than 15 feet away. baker had been sought for questioning until unwittingly brinsley directions. baker was cleared of any wrongdoing. both detectives have been suspended without pay. >>> a man from long island is accused of pepper spraying a man and his children and brawling outside the broadway mall in hicksville. police arrested labella. they say he sprayed the driver and his two children in the car with him at the time with pepper spray. bystanders jumped in to subdue labella but police say he broke free. he was later found at his home in sea cliff. >>> firefighters rescued a dog from a burning home in rutherford, new jersey. they found the house, as you can see there, fully engulfed in

. >> i'm joe torres. >> and i'm -- the man slammed into the taxi. >> the impact pushed the taxi across onto a sidewalk and into a pole. mallory hoff is live in franklin square with the details. mallory. >>reporter: joe, sandra, the victim was a 47-year-old father from elmont. both cars ultimately came to a stop right where that power pole is right there. and across the street, you can actually see the close proximity to where this i spoke to a man who called himself a colleague and friend of the victim. nassau county police say 23-year-old duke was arrested about an hour after running from the scene of a deadly morning crash. he was driving the 2016 bmw on turnpike at a high rate of speed when he hit a 200 the chevrolet taxi. his charges include second-degree manslaughter, operating a vehicle without a license and dwi. investigators say the crash pushed the taxi from the westbound lane to eastbound lanes across to lincoln road and into a power pole. the taxi driver died as a result of the crash. >> i spoke to him last night. >> a dispatcher at oli airport service who was not working sa

i'm joe torres. >> and i'm sandra bookman. we're going to begin with the breaking news in westchester. firefighters battling a fire at -- it broke out at 53 harriet street. the fire reached four-alarms. >> eyewitness news reporter lucy yang is at the scene in yonkers. lucy. >>reporter: well, joe and sandra, an intense four-alarm fire tore through three homes in yonkers this afternoon. it was a fiery, smoky scene here on harriet street behind me. the blaze was reported at 2:00 this afternoon and quickly took over three houses. all of the houses are described as three stories, structures another one is destroyed. the third suffering mostly water damage. neighbors were told to evacuate. some of them in their pajamas at the time. rescue crews worked to keep the flames from reaching more homes. we're told it started at 53 harriet street and spread to 51 and 55. the two houses on both sides. >> we got in front of the building, we had number 53. basically fully involving fire. all three stories of the building had fire. we had no civ

joe torres is in the newsroom. >> reporter: diana, the basis of the retrial is alleged juror misconduct claiming that one of the jurors failed to disclose that a close family member had been accused of a crime. juror number 9 in a published interview said that his father served more than seven years in prison for accidentally shooting a friends but the juror did not disclose this during pre-trial questioning. when asked by the judge if anyone close to him committed a crime, juror number 9 said, quote, all my friends through the years, you meet friends. they do silly things. the judge, looking for clarification went on to say i'm talking about a close family member or yourself. the juror replied, no, no. today, the district attorney replied saying that defendant's because the evidence introduced at trial was more than sufficient to establish the crime for which defendant was convicted. he faced 15 years in prison for a deadly shooting inside the pink houses in 2014. the district attorney --the sentencing is scheduled for next week. >> thank you, joe. it's windy out there? >>> i will try

joe torres is at the park with more. >> brandon lawrence had his whole life ahead of him. 19 years old. he was a student athlete last year at lincoln high school in yonkers. he was studying mass media as a freshman this year at iona college. this weekend, those dreams, that future cut short by a bullet on a ball field. >> reporter: the lawrence family of yonkers tonight trying so hard to understand the incomprehensible loss of a son, a brother, a nephew. 19-year-old brandon lawrence was shot and killed early sunday morning on a new rochelle ball field. >> i love my son. i loved him dearly. and he was killed so senselessly.
