and former illinois congressman, joe walsh, great to have all three of you with us. simon, let's start with you. from a political perspective, have you seen our republican primary candidate who had so much momentum, touted as the heir apparent, someone that had this much expectation on his shoulder, flop, and burn so quickly end disastrously? >> no. i think we've seen other front runner, strong candidates claps in the primary throughout recent american history, this was a big one. he was the hope for all those republicans who hope there can be a future of the party outside of donald trump, without trump meaning them. he was the great hope for all of them. he ran as you said, ayman, he was a terrible campaign, a terrible candidate, they spent a lot of money and got little in return. where we are now in this primary, right, it looks like donald trump is going to prevail at some point, we'll see what happens in new hampshire. and all the sudden the general election is here, things are gonna change very quickly now. >> joe, your reaction to rhonda scent is dropping out o

joining me now is my political panel, doug jones, former democratic senator of alabama, and joe walsher republican congressman of illinois. joe, we're days until the gop caucus, donald trump is spending more time in iowa, he had two events on saturday and is expected to be back on the state on friday. trump seems to be more focused on the hawkeye state as it's getting down to the wire. compared to all of 2023, we're reports show that trump only visited the state 18 times and held under 40 campaign events in other appearances. meanwhile, some of his rivals have visited iowa dozens of times, and they have hundreds of events. trump is leading in iowa, and he's spending more time there now, it is it enough for voters to support him although he has not done a lot of retail campaigning at all overall? >> look, out, i think trump wants to win big, i never thought that this primary is much of a primary, is much of a contest. it's sad, it's a sad truth that the republican party is trump's party, i think he knows, his people know hill win in iowa, he wants to get out to biden, he wants to get o

radio show, and in denver, lucy caldwell, an independent and former campaign manager for congressman joe walsh, do you agree the media have basically given up, smacked their foreheads and conceded that donald trump is going to win iowa and then wrap up the nominations? >> i think that a lot of media has adopted that narrative. i actually think there still may be a little bit of drama here because the expectation that trump's going to win amins that if ron desantis -- win amins -- iowa means that the storyline will be, oh, wow, desantis outperformed expectations. and i also believe nikki haley's going to be very competitive in new hampshire. and so i think people are overlooking that a little bit. now, the question that still emergings and is the -- emerges and is the most important is when's going if to be the number two, right? because i do think we're going to get a one v. one by the time we head to south carolina, and is there anyone, ron desantis or nikki haley, that could give trump a run into marchsome i don't think nikki haley can. i think there's a possibility that ron desantis could.
