. >>> joining me now, joe watkins, rick tyler, and zerlena maxwell. toe have you three this morning. before we get to sessions, ir i want to start with president trump tweets saying that he found out president obama had his wires tapped before the election. he called this mccarthyism. and another tweet, more allegations about tapping phones abo . trump calling it nixon/watergate. zerlena, let me start with you. it's been a busy morning. what is your sense of this? about. >> it seems like it's a lot of projection on the president's part, but that is part and parcel with donald trump's persona. often he blames others or points the finger at others for things that he himself is guilty of. so we don't know what is going on with russia. what we are seeing is we want to get to the bottom of it and the problem is that this administration just has no credit ability on this issue and many other issues. and so he's trying to distract the american people from this very serious and substantive story that we've been talking about all week with russia and the ties

. >> joining me now, joe watkins, rick tyler, and zerlena maxwell. big of a blow was this for the president? mark halperin put this way. >> i think that this will put on doubt on their entire domesticed jen toda agenda. >> this is an embarrassing get. they couldn't even get a vote in the house of represent tifds. >> joe, go y do you agree? >> yeah, it's certainly a get for donald trump and for paul ryan. maybe a bigger defeat for paul ryan and the top three republicans who were responsible really for getting the votes that they need to pass legislation. so this is a defeat for them. but as i've said all along, needed to work with dems. you have to work with dems swellings republicans. you have to have a broad coalition of support to really best serve the american people. this bill would have looked different anyway if it had passed and gone to the senate. it would have been changed anyway. you have to address medicaid expansion. you can't leave out work poor people and people who are drug addicted and the folks least article to provide for themselves.

joining me now, joe watkins, rick tyler, and careen shampere. thank you all for being here. te is expected in two week. what is behind the need for speed here? even some republicans can't explain this rush. >> i don't think that speed is -- obviously it gives an early win to the trump administration if they can get it passed. but you have to consider what we're doing here. and i think republicans if they're smart don't want to run the risk of making the same mistake democrats made before which is having a bill that doesn't have broad bipartisan support. if you work across the aisle with democrats, you can find a way to fix things that may not be currently working such as with medicare with expansion pi which 30 states benefit from. you can't have a bill that phases it out and doesn't have some kind of a reasonable replacement for it, some kind of alternative that works. you can't leave out poor people, working poor people and drug addicted people and people who are mentally ill. you have to make sure they're covered, too. you can't say we've cut costs but -- and these people

joining me now, joe watkins, zerlena maxwell. great to have you this morning. start with you. you just heard joni ernst getting shouted out and booed over this health care reform plan and she told the crowd she can't support the new plan until she sees the final draft. is this repeal and replace already a political liability for republicans? >> well, i worked for a u.s. senator once. i know how hard those town hall meetings can be. at the end of the day, all politics are local and people care about bills, may be republicans or democrats, but if a bill will hurt them, they will make a lot of noise about it. and so i wasn't surprised that that meeting was as nsy as it was. there is a lot of work that needs to be done on the health care bill. you just can't talk in generalities about it when people know that they may potentially be out of health care over the next couple years. if you're going to cut $880 billion out of medicaid, that means working poor people and people who are drug addicted and other folks will be left out in the cold and they will have somethin
