reporter joel diller oid thanks joel for joining us well you know we heard the report you know that the protesters are looking for more freedom but of course you know we've had the easing of restrictions here in germany in the past few weeks so why exactly are these demonstrations actually taking place it is a big counterintuitive because we have seen restrictions starting to lift across germany restaurants and cafes can open again there are less restrictions on people meeting each other socially but one reason these demonstrations are taking place now is partially because they're being allowed to previously there were banned under lockdown restrictions that was overturned by a court and local governments were instructed that they had to allow this sort of demonstrations to occur under certain conditions and so that's what we've been seeing but also there's some concern that this is moving from just being about the lockdown to being about other wider issues sort of for example the german federal police is warning that right wing extremists are using these protests to push their own agen
