i want to bring in joey. joey, how is a hate crime defined and proven in this country?risty. well, first of all good morning to you. what happens is that remember that the federal government is doing the parallel investigation. what that means is that the state, of course, has charmged this person with murder for the three deaths he committed and caused. so the federal government is doing it's own investigation into a hate crime. what is that? when you take an action against someone because of their actual or perceived issue relating to national origin or relating to race or religion. in the act that you engaged in was the case of that, then it would constitute a hate crime. then the next issue becomes how do we prove that you acted because of the perceived hate as a result of the religion or anything else? what i would say with that is like anything else you look at the mental state and intent. you can not into somebody's mind and as a result of that you exam the surrounding circumstances, and in looking at that and seeing that there and offense like murder and vandali

. >> reporter: prosecutors say that 40-year-old joey was actually convicted last week of luring a man that he met at a college park beer pong tournament back to his apartment and sexually assaulting him. that happened in 2013. as part of the investigation, cops found evidence on a hard drive that was tough to listen to. i was in the courtroom and they say that basically the new jury got to see it. that evidence proved that he didn't just rape one person, he is a certificatal predator. prosecutors say ho-year-old joey point dexter was prowling for victims at tournaments as far back as 2011. prosecutors played a jaw- dropping video that shows him raping one of his male victims as the incapacitated man moans no. he was found guilty of sexually assaulting one male victim last week. now he is facing charges that he sexually assaulted four more, one as young as 18 years old in 2011 and 2012. some victims didn't know it happened until police found the video evidence. there could be even more. it's very possible that he may never see the outside of a jail cell again. he could face up to 70 ye

i want to bring in hln legal analyst joey jackson for more.joey. >> good morning, carol. >> there's a criminal investigation going on right now. what are police looking for as far as bruce jenner is concerned if this was a chain reaction crash? >> what will happen, carol it will be a two-fold investigation. the first part will involve -- stephanie addressed a lot of that issue. they'll speak to the drivers of the cars. they'll speak with any other eyewitnesses in order to determine what car did what whose conduct was what and what were relative positions of the vehicles and then second part of it is scientific and it relates to accident reconstruction. a lot of physics involved. if you look at the crush impact of the vehicle, you can determine the speed of the vehicle, the positioning of the vehicle, they'll measure the skid marks on the ground and they'll make an assessment about where the cars were and how this accident occurred. the other part of it is when they do that they'll assess whether or not there was any negligent conduct. no one w
