so let's talk to legal analyst joey jackson here. joey, always good to have you here.eciate it. is it an unreasonable ask at this point and is it unprecedented, is there any precedence for releasing that information to the family? >> good morning to you. it is not unprecedented and i think it's required and necessary under these circumstances. we should be mindful of the fact that the governor in kentucky who himself was an attorney general has asked for the release of the transcripts. we knohere are legal exceptions and it should not take family going to court in order to get that done. now, we know and understand grand juries generally meet in secret. there are a number of reasons for that. protect witnesses. protecting until propriety and inhe at the grit of the investigations. making sure people don't flee. many of those particular exceptions with respect to why a grand jury transcript would be released are applicable here and many reasons to keep the grand jury secret don't apply her. it's only in accord with good business practice, in accord with good societal pr

i want to bring in joey jackson to start this discussion. joey, a lot to talk about. part of it is just the power, the emotions of this family, which since march has been demanding justice, which since march has been hoping there would be justice. and now they feel violated. my word, not theirs, but disappointed in the kentucky attorney general. so you have the emotion and the power of breonna's mother's statement, read by her sister, which is remarkable. and you have the demands from the attorneys present, the civil rights activists present, the family members present for the attorney general to release the transcripts of the grand jury proceeding, pause they say they want to see exactly what he did, and more importantly, what he didn't do in presenting that case. >> yeah, john. it's a very significant thing. let's just back up just a minute. why is there this major concern? there's a concern with regard to accountability and transparency. we've often heard, john, that a grand jury can indict a ham sandwich. if that's true, what happened here? so what we have to know

also joining us cnn legal analyst and criminal defense attorney joey jackson. what's your reaction to hear the attorney general of the united states compare coronavirus lockdowns to slavery. >> beyond insensitive, there's a reason why this nation has been able to do like so many nations around the globe to contain the spread of the virus. this type of mindset. it's also this type of mindset that led naacp to oppose his nomination to begin w he is the attorney general for the united states, not the attorney general for the president, not the attorney general for the republican party, not the attorney general for the re-election of the person sitting in the white house. it's appalling what we're hearing right now. >> joey, we're now getting a sense of how aggressively the attorney general wants to go after not only violent protesters but portland officials for their handling of all the unrest over there. have you ever heard of anything like that before? >> i have not, wolf, and it's a disgrace. it is for a number of reasons. number one, if you want citizens to tr

let's go to our colleague shimon prokupecz, our reporter on the ground and joey jackson, our legal analyston, tell us what the city is doing to prepare again. the question is why for five-plus months have we not known if, you know, there will be any charges brought against these three officers, and we'll know more today? >> reporter: we could know more today. it's certainly expected this week. the city officials, the police department, community members all are anticipating some kind of announcement from the attorney general here this week. that's why as you can see behind me the police overnight decided, without really giving any notice, that they were going to close some of the streets, some of the access roadways into the courthouse and other government buildings here in downtown louisville. i walked around here this morning and almost virtually every business, every restaurant, every store is boarded up, and they continue to board up a lot of the area here in anticipation of this announcement, and it has been five months. of course, the added pressure from celebrities, from politicians

joining us now cnn legal analyst joey jackson. , did the rochester police chief mishandle this incident based on what you know? >> well, wolf, i'll pause on that inasmuch as we don't know everything, but all indications that have been reported are very concerning. what are those? i think we are in an era, of course, of accountability where police officers need to be held accountable for their conduct. we're in an era of transparency where we need to know that as the public at large, what that looked like, what happened, when did it happen. was it a drug overdose? was it not a drug overdose? did you see the video? did you not see the video? did you say to the mayor it was something that it was not? in the event, as the mayor has seemingly indicated, wolf, the police chief has said it was an overdose. clearly it was not. then that would be mishandling it. this is not about a cover-up. this is a community, a society, and a nation that demands and wants justice. and until and unless we get that, again you're going to see people like th

i would like to welcome our panelists carmen chu, joey jackson morgan, and veronica shepherd.nk you for being here today. i would like to open up the discussion with a question. please introduce yourself and tell our audience what you are currently working on the covid issues in your field. we can start with carmen. >> so good afternoon everybody, so glad to join all of you today for this great panel. i want to thank you megan for helping to host this and making sure this important conversation comes forward. i serve as san francisco elected assessor. like many of you, we had to quickly change to a remote work scenario with our office when we had the shelter place be put in place in march. we were able to do that relatively quickly and 98% of our operations is happening off site and not in person. we've been working hard to make sure we try to continue to do our work, primarily because we know that the revenue impact of our work has been very, very large and disperse impact to the city, from the types of programs we're able to support people with us specially during covid-19.
