so what do you tell someone like johanna, you have to have a job to get one? to appear to be involved in your field, even if you are not working. >> what does that mean? >> if you are not paid to do your job, you can be active in social media. i tell people how they can interact on twitter, and engage on linkedin, and share advise with others in their field. >> what have you done in terms of making yourself more marketing? >> i have not done the twitter and facebooking, but i havebeen networking with people. >> just talking to people. >> yeah, somebody standing on the corner, it doesn't matter who they are, and i open myself up to let everybody know i am seeking employment. >> there are a few sectors hiri hiring. at this point johanna says she has been out of work for 18 months and will do anything. >> the number one thing is to say i can do anything. employers don't want somebody desperate. so focus in on what your specific skills are and then identify specific jobs. don't say i would like to apply for any job in your organization. >> when you hear the number

joh johanna hill has been out of work for a year and a half now. she's at a job fair right here in atlanta, sponsored by the congressional black caucus. thank you for taking the time. i know you would rather be going to all the booths there to try and find a job. so tell us a little bit at your situation. why have you been out of work for a year and a half? >> well, actually i was asked to leave employment from fulton county, department of family and children services. to date i have yet to receive a reason. that's one of the things, i think, the president, our government, especially maybe at the federal grant or state level should look into. people are being terminated unfairly, with no reason, no explanation, or anything. what they're quoting to us is a right to work state and stating that they can fire you or terminate you or end your employment for whatever reason, and they don't have to give you a reason. so i think that -- that right to work law, what they claim, really should be investigated. i think it's unfair. you don't have a reason to t

i know that johanna, my climate visor to the mayor's office, and she's here today.we've had a number of discussions about how to update the climate action plan and where we're going, and this will go very far in guiding us and also in making sure that our plans can be updated properly. so i want to thank you for the work that's reflected in these papers, first of all, and to thank all of the efforts. here as i look across the room, one of my thoughts as these presentations are made is, gosh, have we gone a long way. in the whole environmental movement i still remember those years where so many people were left out of the discussion, and that whole communities didn't know what their role would be yet, so you might have to suffer things and do things differently and not be properly guided, where were the jobs going to be or was it the environment versus our lives? all those contradictions had been so much a part of discussions that i had in my own community for many years, because we didn't have as inclusive of a process as i think these papers now reflect. so i want
