john alston has details. >> the shooting took place in uptown, oakland in the shadow of the fox theater and trendy eateries. three stylists from the bad boys salon were shot in front of their business, along with another person who just happened to be on the sidewalk. >> they went out there and saw the blood. doing my best to hold his wounds. >> the trouble began yesterday when somebody broke into the car on telegraph avenue and grabbed a purse. it belonged to this man's girlfriend who was a stylist in the salon. >> so i chased him down 18th street and i caught him. i got the purse back. him and his friend, whatever, they ran away. >> witnesses say at least one of them returned to the hair salon on a bike and with a gun. this man was in a cafe across the street. >> i heard a pop, pop. i walk out, and i see the gentleman shooting marquis when he's on the ground and i go over and render first aid. >> before i get back i hear a bunch of siren and i see people laying on the ground and they are shot, and i find out my girl got shot. all of this over a broken window and a few meaningless poss

abc7 news reporter john alston has more on the fight to bring the fire under control. >> flames continue to own the hillside. the night skies makes it easier to see the actual fires burning under all the smoke. some crews were put on standby to make sure the flames don't jump over to the south side of highway 120. a few miles away in groveland, hundreds of people gathered to hear an update and to ask questions. >> we have folks that are east, but before the park gate that's -- that didn't get evacuation notices. they had to leave on their own. we've need to know the status of the line out there. >> she lives in los altos, but rushed here because her property owns property in the fire zone. for her that works. >> i listened to the scanner and felt this is escalating, it is in the canyon. we came up to make sure we could get friends and family out. you also have to remember, it's not just about family, your immediate family, this whole community is a family. >> officials say they anyhow the fire started but not how. there was lightning in the area and it is not unusual to wood to smolder.

for the latest on the fire, let's get to john alston live in tuolumne county. >> reporter: this has been burning right along highway 120. there you see one of the helicopters that have been making water drops all afternoon. wind has been a factor this afternoon, 20 to 30-mile-per-hour gusts. that has concerned communities along the edge of this fire. if they are not fighting the fire, they're try to stay ahead of it. crews are drawing a line in the forest trying to prevent the flames from spreading northwest into more populated areas like twain, hart and tuolumne cities. this exploded in yosemite national park. >> we'll talk about where our lines will be. >> reporter: crews are on stand-by knowing they could quickly be on the front lines. >> we are expecting a wind to push tonight. whether it comes around, we don't know. but we're planning on that that we're prepared to pick this area. >> so you are smart, you packed the cereal? >> reporter: for days crystal baker and her family have been out of their home, one of the homes threatened by the rim fire. >> right now just trying to keep my
