john alston is getting a first-hand tour of the completed work. have a live report on abc7 news at 5:00 p.m. officials hope by the end of today the bridge will essentially be ready to handle tuesday morning traffic. tomorrow we will see some of the celebration begin. there's an event around 4:30 tomorrow afternoon they estimate. but as of right now the official opening of the new span remains set for tuesday morning at 5:00. >> there will be a traditional chain-cutting ceremony out of the toll plaza. that will be sometime around 4:30. but that does not harold an immediate opening of the bridge to regular traffic. >> so while it's possible remaining work could be done sooner, no one is commit to go that right now. so they say plan for tuesday. demolition of the old s-curve is already done. work is underway to put in a temporary bicycle lane wishes is due to open tuesday at noon. at 2,047 feet, the new bridge will be the longest self-anchored suspension span anywhere in the world. the main tower is 525 feet high, designed to move with the shaking of
