of elections counted just over 8 thousands votessan francisco department of elections director john arntz says that about 5,000 vote by mail ballots arrived at the department on thursday. those all need to be verified and counted. with the top two candidates running for san francisco mayor now separated by a mere 255 votes, arntz says they are double checking to make sure there aren't any ballots that were misplaced on election day.sot as we go through the material that came back from the polling place we are going to find ballots that were put into the wrong container on election day. we will review those and if they are valid we will count those ballots.as of thursday afternoon, the department estimates that there are still about 83,700 ballots left to count. with 4 voting cards in each ballots, that means about 334,000 individual cards still need to be checked. director arntz estimates the work will continue through the weekend and probaly into next week.sot sunday would be a reach . i think monday would be closer. we've got four machines, it's just a matter of getting stuff through th

still 64,900 ballots left to be counted. with the race this tight, department of election director john arntzcking the city's wearhouse at pier 48 for any misplaced ballots.sotthere will be material from our wearhouse coming back to city hall that will be valid ballots, i promise you. the numbers won't be extermeley high but ther will be some coming back to us. the department of elections has also recieved almost all of the outstanding mail in ballots and they are now in the process of counting those votes.arntz points that out that even though interest in the mayor's race is high, the department is still collecting votes for all the various state and local elections and ballot measures. every ballot has four voting cards inside and all those votes need to be tabulated, not just he votes for san francisco mayor.sotwe can't seperate a card just for one race. we can't just pull the mayors race out and tabulate that one contest to give an answer about where this contect might lead to. arntz also says that once the mail in ballots are counted , staff will still need to count thousands of provisio
