his research contributions were recognized when he received the john bates clark medal, given every two years to the outstanding american economist under the age of 40. he was also the very first social scientists to receive the national science foundation's alan t. waterman award for outstanding scientific achievement. he is a member of the national academy of science and has written extensively on economic analysis and policy. it is a special day like today for the georgetown university community when we inaugurate this extraordinary building in this hall with this very special conference. it is especially a privilege for me to have him with us today to provide his insights. ladies and gentlemen, dr. lawrence summers.
