i'm john berman out in front of the wynn las vegas. in two days the five democratic presidential hopefuls will face off for the first time on cnn. we unveiled the lectern set up inside the hall, hillary clinton on top of the polls, center stage, to her right vermont senator bernie sanders, the leader in the key state of new hampshire, on her left, former maryland governor martin o'malley, former virginia senator jim webb and former rhode island governor lincoln chafee. they book end the stage. a brand-new poll out today, hillary clinton on top in the cbs poll. she is 19 points ahead of bernie sanders. now, if, if vice president joe biden enters the race, he would be in third with the other candidates far, far behind. but a biden candidacy is still a big if. there has been no word from the vice president who has been meeting all weekend with friends and family to discuss a potential run up in delaware, no white smoke, no black smoke from that house. we simply do not know what's going on there. let's begin here, though, with cnn's senior

i'm christine romans. >> i'm john berman. breaking news.ew information about the shooter who opened fire on the college campus in oregon leaving ten people dead. police say he showed up at umpqua community college heavily armed with body armor. according to the father of a wounded student, the gunman opened fire as soon as he entered the classroom. he asked some victims about their religion during the killing spree. >> he came in and there were gunfire immediately and scattered the room. got everyone's attention. he from what i understood what she said is he shot the professor point blank. one shot and killed him. took him right out of it. others had been injured and then this man had enough time -- i don't think how many time elapsed before he was able to stand there and ask people one by one what their religion was. are you a christian, he asked them. if you're christian, stand up. they would stand up. good, because you're christian, you will see god in just about one second and shot and killed them. he kept going down the line doing this

i'm john berman. >> i'm christine romans. it is tuesday, october 27th. 5:00 a.m. in the east. let's start with the video taken by a cell phone. video violence in a high school classroom in south carolina. this video shows a school resource officer body slamming a female student after she apparently refused to get up from her chair. the resource officer dragging her across the room. the officer in the video is richland county officer ben fields. he has been placed on administrative leave. police are trying to piece together what led to the violent incident. >> the student was asked to leave the class several times by the instructor at the school. assistant principal was there as well. the officer was called on scene to actually have the student removed from the location. the student refused. the officer acted that you see on the video. now, again, what we saw was just a tid-bit of what the video showed. we will look at what happened that led up to the incident that took place and what happened afterwards. all of that will take part in what the sheriff decides. >> and big discus

i'm john berman in front of the wynn las vegas. in two days the five democratic presidential hopefuls face off for the very first time on cnn. just a short time ago we unveiled the lectern setup inside the hall, hillary clinton on top of the polls center stage. to her right, vermont senator bernie sanders, a leader in the key state of new hampshire. on her left, former maryland governor martin o'malley, former virginia senator jim webb and former rhode island governor lincoln chafee will book end the stage. there is a brand-new poll out today. hillary clinton with the lead in the cbs poll, 19 points behead of bernie sanders. now if, if vice president joe biden enters the race he would enter in third place with the candidates far behind. but that biden candidacy, no one knows what's going on. there has been no word from the vice president. he has been meeting with his family, presumably with aides as well all weekend at his home in delaware. we are waiting for some word about what comes out of those meetings. in the meantime, we are
