you have to know that john boehner tells his membership -- there are 230 republicans in the house.e is their leader. he tells the leadership we're not going to do anything on immigration reform until the obama administration can be trusted to enforce the law. republicans hear that and hear never. then we find out that boehner has gone before donors in laughings and says he is, quote, hell bent on passing immigration reform this year. and then now on the tape you just played, he goes before a group in his home district in ohio and makes fun of republicans, basically says they're too lazy to get any of this done. that is not the way to build unity in the republican caucus, and also sends a message to democrats from boehner saying, i really want to get this immigration thing done but i have to deal with the crazies in my party. it's bad. >> he went on to say, quote, we get elected make choices. we get elected to solve problems and it's remarkable to me how many of my colleagues just don't want to. they'll take the path of least resistance. golly. he is really layering it on. we hear a

what do you think and what do you make of the comments house speaker john boehner made? >> well, to legislate we need legislators talking to each other and that's not happening. look, i support speaker boehner. i would like congress to deal with immigration reform this year. but the reality is that despite what the speaker is saying publicly, in public speeches, he's not talking to his delegation, specifically to conservative members. and there are many conservative members, even conservative members with ties to the tea party that want to do something, but they haven't really heard from leadership. that conversation is not happening. i wouldn't let democrats off the hook either. i don't see any constructive conversations happening between republicans and democrats. i think there are many democrats who are still -- the majority in the house who are still insisting on the senate bill. there's only a few, led by luis gutierrez, who are willing to have a conversation with republicans. right now it's all disjointed. so if you don't have that conversation, that discussion to b

john boehner is not going to bring this to the floor for a vote.dent is out campaigning on $10.10. what is the end game here in 2014? >> well, first of all i think that it is not necessarily all over. you know, the bus tour that's been going around all over the country getting great local press on raise the wage is coming to washington tomorrow. they are going to have a press event. the president is out there stumping. and almost three quarters of the american people believe we should raise the minimum wage. at the very least, ed, the fact that the republicans end up saying no is very unpopular with the american people. and could be an election year. i know right now if john boehner were to call that bill it would pass. once again john baner is standistand i -- boehner is standing in the way of millions of the americans getting a raise. and it would help the economy. this is a good thing. it is not beating a dead horse. >> well you know, beating a dead horse. i hope not. that is the terminology i was going to use. you took it right out of my mouth.
