with me now is john bolton.ou able to tell us that you were aware of this site -- you werbefore you left? >> no, and this is an extremely dangerous thing. it continues to highlight the deceit and deception that iran had been practicing and why any real prospect of negotiating with them is once again revealed to be frivolous. jon: apparently you have u.s. and other western intelligence agencies who have been monitoring it for years. when iran find out, they decide to reveal this to the iaea. so what should the western response be? >> i do not know if that is quite the way it happened, but i know that western intelligence found out about this site perhaps within the last few years. information was then given to the iaea. then they probably, in turn, went to iran and said, what is going on? that probably prompted the letter to the iaea, recognizing that they could not conceal it. they tried to bring it back within their safeguard agreement to show that it was legitimate, even though it is being built in an undergro

megyn: we have john bolton, former ambassador to the united nations, standing by. of the president's remarks? >> first, he has put israel on the chopping block. there has never been a speech by an american president that was so critical of israel. second, reinforcing what bill said, he did everything but say i am not george bush. most people realize that. finally the naivete, he did everything but say can we all not just get along? it was a remarkable speech, a real window into his mentality. one that was warmly received by members of the u.n. megyn: one of the times that they burst into applause in the middle of his remarks is when he said "american does not accept the legitimacy of continued israeli settlements." a point that went over well with those in attendance. i want to put your focus on iran. the president did mention iran by name, saying that day and north korea must be held accountable. then he said the following. >> the world must stand together to demonstrate that international law is not an empty promise. treaties will be enforced. we must insist that

joining us is former ambassador john bolton. do you think iran can build a nuclear bomb? >> i think they have all the technology they need, complete indedginous mastery over the fuel cycle and i think it's just a matter of time. intelligence assessments that say it's years away are just wrong the greta: what's holding them back? >> everybody will tell you the most important thing you need to build a nuclear weapon is the capacity to enrich you arium -- uranium to weapons grade. they certainly have that. they could do it in a very short period of time. greta: and what does president president expect? he said these horrible things about israel and the holocaust. what happens next week? >> well, he comes to the united states to address the general assembly and i believe he addresses it on the same day as president obama. moammar qaddafi will also speak that day. it will be a big day in the general assembly and he can say whatever he wants. he's said some crazy things before and it's something to look forward to because he is completely uninhibited at this point in iran. gret

greta: former ambassador to the united nations john bolton joins us. >> how are you? greta: very well. i was listening to benjamin netanyahu, and it was a very piercings speech. he talked about his wife's family being completely walked out and ahmadinejad, and then he thanked the people who got up and left, but what about the people who even walked in that door to begin with? what about them? >> it looks like 10 or 11 delegations walked out, and that means that 180 delegations stayed there, and i think what this shows is just what the united nations is all about. people do not like it. they complain about it. but on the other hand, you have president obama as saying how much more of our foreign policy we will run through the united nations. the face of ahmadinejad, the face of hugo chavez, the influence they have in that organization, and that is the organization that president obama wants to use to help us implement policy for the u.s. well, good luck with that. greta: it was not a surprise what he was going to say, not a real shocker for him to say that he wants to

the former ambassador to the united nations and fox news contributor john bolton joins us now. talk to me about what you expect netanyahu to say. how forceful do you expect him to be about iran's nuclear ambitions? >> he will be very clear how concerned he is not just for israel but for the whole world about a country like iran getting nuclear weapons. i do not think there will be any discussion of what he might do. i think he will stressed diplomacy and make the case for israel's position in the middle east, specifically with palestinians. it will be a very wide-ranging and important speech. martha: what about the president -- what about what the president said yesterday about israel? >> actually, what he said about the palestinians was that they should curb their incitement. it is not incitement the israelis are worried about. it is rocket attacks. the parallels that he drew in some of his language about occupation since 1967 and the illegitimacy of settlements is very bad news for israel. the government of israel does not want to portray this as a setback for political reaso

john bolton who says that with that statement about the settlements not being legitimate that the president on the chopping block. did you agree? >> i don't think he put them on the chopping block, necessarily. i think this emphasis on settlements is disproportionate. the disadvantage that he creates is that the arabs take advantage i'm not going to negotiate while natural growth goes on. there are no new settlements being built. is he prepared to have a freeze and some sort of moratorium. when you elevate it to this status to take advantage of it to say we are not going to negotiate under these conditions. steve: malkin, as you look at the arc of the president's comments on president's comments on palestinian, he has changed his tune. he was putting all the pressure on you guys, seemingly. now he is pushing both sides. >> he did, i think, initially the tenor and tone of the comment about israel and the statements even when senator mitchell went and others it, certainly has changed dramatically. they learned a lesson that other presidents have learned. you can't just put the pressure on you
