i'm joined by ambassador john bolton, former u.n. ambassador and fox news contributor.d morning . what do you make of leon panetta's comments? what do they mean to you. >> i think he is right on target. they sound like comments from a man who is about to leave the obama administration which he is. the president in his inaugural address said a decade of war is ending. when he accepted the democratic presidential nomination on september 6th. he said al qaeda is on the road to defeat. five days later, ambassador chris stevens, three other americans, killed in libya. we see the french in operation in mali against an air i can't -- area that al qaeda terrorists carved out the size of texas. as you mentioned this terrible hostage-taking in algeria where there are at least 37 dead and quite likely more. the war on global terrorism is far from over. and so secretary panetta may want to talk to the president about that. >> what we've seen, the war against terrorism and the obama administration has existed in drone strikes in terms of the major mo. we know that we're obviously, y

ambassador to the united nations john bolton. he is also a fox news contributor. we heard some questions about of the secretary of state, am boos door, bolton. is there one you would have asked that did not get asked? >> unfortunately the nature of congressional hearings it is not a question and answer so much as it is a statement and counter statement. although i do think some important questions were asked and i think the most important was that secretary clinton admitted that she was unaware of the request for enhanced security from embassy tripoli. i think that is very significant and i think reflect as real failure of leadership on her part. i would have liked to have seen follow-up give the denial of security enhancements, i think flowed from her policy, the administration policy, to have a light footprint, to move toward normalcy in our relationship with the government of libya. that wasn'tly obviously up to fit. we had a heavier security footprint it would be acknowledgement that the overthrow of qaddafi was not being followed by a movement to representati

ambassador john bolton former u.s. ambassador to the u.n. and fox news contributor. ambassador, aaron david miller's article, serious chaos, is it america's fault. he lays out the paradigm for not getting involved. do you agree or disagree? >> i agree and disagree in part. the test for foreign policy should be are our national interests affected and what are we prepared to do about it? in case of syria there is one critical national interest. what to do about the stockpile of chemical weapons and precursor chemicals and possibly other programs of weapons of mass destruction, biological weapons, nuclear and so on that the assad regime has. we do have a profound interest in making sure that the chemical weapons in particular don't get into even worse hand that they're in now. i'm afraid we have allowed nearly a year and a half to go by without treating that issue seriously. i don't think there is an american national interest at this point in getting involved in the conflict other than to make sure that those weapons don't get outside of syria. jenna: question to ask i

when you start hearing like tina brown wrote, you know, john bolton has questioned her magnificence,fit to wipe her floor with his mustache. she's a lot tougher than a lot of people who are so outraged by questions being asked. >> she is a lot tougher. but here's the deal. people like john bolton were not questioning, saying, gosh, could you give us some more information, like maybe melinda had. they were accusing her of faking an illness to avoid responsibility that she takes seriously. that is what is unacceptable, and that's a big piece of a problem of what's wrong in our public discourse today. who cares if it's unfair to hillary clinton. she can take it, she's tough. it's inappropriate, it's inpolitic, and frankly, i think it sends the wrong message to every child, every college student, and every person who wants to offer themselves up to public service. >> do you think that it undermines -- if they have legitimate questions, as you said, it's our job to question our politicians. if there are legitimate questions, do you think it undermined maybe the conservative argument, beca
