joining me is ambassador john bolton, former u.s. ambassador to the united nations. thanks for your opinion on this. ambassador we heard this before. what is the truth about this threat? >> you have to consider this to be a very serious threat. i racked my memory for a case where so many state department embassies and consoulates have been closed at the same time and haven't come up with one. i think they're very concerned about the nature of the conspiracy they uncovered. they clearly don't know where although the state department's travel warning which was issued friday actually was fairly specific. it says the threat will emanate from or occur on the arare yan pi peninsula. that's where they're most concerned but they know it could be in a variety of other places as well. this is not something overhyped. when you have people's lives at stake it's best to be prudent. that's what both the closures and travel warning are intended for. >> we confirmed with the state department this threat lasts through august. do you trust that? we can't keep the diplomatic buildings

former ambassador to the u.n., john bolton, saying this bloody confrontation is just what the muslim wants. >> the brotherhood wants this confrontation because in its twisted view of life, having a couple hundred martyrs increases their appeal. martha: walid phares joins me now, good to have you here. i wish we were looking at a better story here. is john bolton right is. >> yes, he is right, but let me say one thing about civil war in egypt, at this point in time it is a civil unrest. in fact, technically, it's a jihadist insurgency. why? in a civil war, you have a divided army, a divided people, and those who are surging have control over areas. so what we have in egypt today is the army did not divide, you have tighters who aren't among the brotherhood. the people, actually, the maximum the brotherhood were able to gather -- and that's huge already -- one million. but the other side, 33 million. and thirdly, the brotherhood are not controlling a zone. the only zone they had, they lost. so they are, as the ambassador said, trying to push for a civil war or a confrontation so that t

ambassador john bolton joins us now as he does every time this sunday. ambassador, good morning. >> good morning, eric. glad to be with you. >> what should we do? >> well, the president, i think, is responding here because he has been so heavily criticized over the past six months after the last reports of serious chemical weapons usage by the assad regime for not responding. so i'm very much afraid now he feels he has to take some military action for his own political reasons. that makes it very hard to predict what he's going to do. but i think given that he has received so much criticism, that's why he'll respond. i think that's a mistake. i think it fails to say what our objective would be in using military force. but i think that iran and syria as well are now threatening obama because they think they can back him down. >> what type of response do you expect will come from the united states? >> well, you know, if we have a response that simply lobs a couple of dozen cruise missiles into syria, it won't seriously affect the balance of power between t

john bolton, former u.s. ambassador to the united nations, fox news contributor. good morning. >> good morning, jamie. >> first of all, the act of closing embassies is just one is step, i imagine, in a process of keeping everyone safe. but do the employees of those embassies remain in place? and if we had done this same thing with those at the consulate or embassy in benghazi, have had a better outcome? >> yeah. one reason to close the embassy is to keep employees, both american and foreign nationals, in their residences. keep them in the dispersed places to avoid crowds around the embassy. people seeking visas and that sort of thing. also make it easier for the local security authorities to protect the physical structures of the embassies themselves. i think that is the sort of thing that certainly should have been considered in benghazi last year september 11th. i think when you combine that with the travel morning that the state department issued on friday which is a month long, which advises americans to be very, very careful about traveling in some of these s

ambassador john bolton, former ambassador to the united states, fox news contributor joins us about this time every sunday. good morning, ambassador. >> good morning, eric. glad to be with you. >> what do you predict could happen later today as if just reported the muslim brotherhood tries now to storm the supreme court? >> well, i think it's become clear in the past several days in particular, although i think it's been clear for a long time, that the muslim brotherhood is not a political party as we in the united states or the west more broadly understand that term. it's an armed militia. it's an armed ideology. and it's simply not going to accept as legitimate any egyptian government that it doesn't control. so i think the prospect for continued violence remains. i think it's just as much if not more the responsibility of the brotherhood as it is of the army. and i think it's important to understand that the army really has, i think, overwhelming support from the egyptian population. we're not yet in a civil war. hopefully that can be avoided. but that's as much up to the brotherhood
