the president's counterterrorism chief deputy national security adviser, john brennan. welcome back to "meet the press." >> thank you, david. >> what more is known about the plot this morning? >> we're still working closely with british authorities as well as the yemenese and other authorities. we're trying to get a handle on what else might be out there. that's why we've taken exceptionally prude measures, in my mind. yemen authorities have been very cooperative in this effort as have other governments and services. so, we're still trying to understand better exactly what we might be facing. >> is it your fear that there are additional devices out there, additional bombs out there in the mail somewhere? >> i think we have to presume that there might be and, therefore, we have to take these measures. but, right now, we do not have indications that there are others that are out there. fedex and u.p.s. have stopped all the packages coming into the united states that were being mailed from yemen. i think we feel as though the appropriate steps have been taken. we feel good

as you know, john brennan at the white house is going to touch with president follow as well. you know, we will continue to evaluate our ongoing assistance programs to yemen, you know, for the fiscal year, just ended. total assistance to young men approached $300 million which involve security, humanitarian and bilateral systems. we do expect, you know, the level of assistance to the gamin for this coming year to be roughly in the same ballpark, although obviously we will continue to evaluate how we can best support gannon in its fight against al qaeda in the arabian plan for, which has impact on the united states. >> when you say evaluating coming to, to meet expanding them or contracting based on the trend of events? >> well, we're not going to contract them. we think the increasing investment in yemen has paid dividends. if you look in the trend over the past three or four years, we've steadily increased our assistant to yemen to the level that i just mentioned to you. we believe that yemen has made significant improvement in security and counterterrorism capability. but ob

>> this is a bipartisan concern, i discussed it with john brennan, the president's homeland securityhe president after election day, and i have told janet napolitano, i intend to hold hearings on this, right after the first of the year, because, it is much more difficult to secure cargo planes than passenger planes and have the same level of security, but obviously we have to do more, and we have to have new steps in place, and i don't want to go into details but we need more steps in place and i think it will be a bipartisan issue, being addressed. i wouldn't expect to see any partisan resistance here and talking about billions of tons of cargo being shipped and it is impossible to check it all and we have to do as good a job weiss can to check all we can, especially those that could be potentially dangerous and we have to have more cooperation from allies and countries overseas and now the british are doing an outstanding job, french, italians and other not so good and this is one area of great importance and not a partisan issue. >> alisyn: we want to get into details with you. cb

brennan. he was the best kept secret in washington. it was the warren court. there were towering intellectual figures on the court. hugo black, william of douglas. earlier on a felix frankfurter, john harland. these were supposed to be the intellectual giants of the court . william brennan was just this guy from new jersey that nobody had ever really heard of and had no particular reputation. it really wasn't until later that we learned what an incredible influence he had behind the scenes in the warren court and continued to have in subsequent years. i think the book documents that, and i hope that is one of the values of the book. suddenly it was one of the great values of the access to all of the papers to his being willing to talk about what went on. one of the great revelations he told me and i asked of the people of round the court for different amounts of time about this. perot warren would come in and have private meetings to talk about how to decide the cases and to home to assign opinions and so on. i don't think even other members of the court knew that those meetings for taking place. i knew that the law clerks to of the justices did not know that those meetings were ta
