john roberts was and is a good friend of mine. we actually interviewed with president bush back to back, hour to hour on a single day, and obviously, the president chose john. but john is -- john was -- the conservatives were suspicious of john on the day of his appointment. they remained suspicious of john all the way up until the dobbs decision. beginning in earnest, their suspicion, the day that you decided the obamacare cases in the way that he did. conservatives never believed the chief justice would vote to overturn roe v. wade, and even though he did what he did, that if you would have approved a 15-month ban that came out of mississippi, that was never going to be enough for the conservatives. after the dobbs decision, what has been said just conversationally is true. john as chief justice no longer commands his court. it is now under the control of the five other conservatives on the court. there is no way that he can regain his control, if you want to call it that, over the supreme court. the chief justice never had control, but the only way that any chief justice
