concerned about charges that this young man might be also being abused in prison, carol. >> on another note, the secretary of state johnnt of international criticism for his push for a cease-fire. tell us about that. >> well, if you look at the israeli press over the last several days, carol, there's been a lot of articles written about secretary kerry that he ruined everything with his cease-fire proposals, kind on the heels of his trip to the middle east. what the state department and even the white house response was very swift and strong saying that there's no better friend of israel than secretary kerry and a lot of his cease-fire proposals were misconstrued. the israelis were saying he was treating hamas's demands equal to israel's security needs. that's what the state department and kerry say that he was saying. basically what he wants to do is have an immediate end to the fighting, both sides stop the bite -- fighting and then have some larger negotiations on both sides about some of these underlying issues resolving the conflict because that's really the only way, carol, we're not going to be doomed to be here

johns joins us now. so explain this to us. >> well, carol, this could be a huge blow to the administration and to obamacare, a divided court just ruled that federal tax subsidies under the affordable care act cannot be used by consumers in federally run exchanges. can only be used through the state exchanges. it could potentially affect your life in a big way. the question is whether the tax credits could be given to people who got their insurance under the affordable care act under federally run exchanges. the law was set up to get people to the state exchanges, nobody thought there was so much resistance to obamacare as we've all seen. 34 states have decided not to set up their own market places, leaving up to the feds. the twist now, the law doesn't expressly say the people who get their health care through the federal exchanges. >> what will happen? will their premiums shoot up? >> the court has said that this is potentially a big blow for those individuals, but before anybody starts hyperventilating, it was always assumed that an adverse ruling would be appealed and it's certainly going to happen in t

john kerry held the state department's our ocean conference. i attended that conference for two days. one of the presenters there was dr. carol turley of the plymouth marine laboratory, and she described her research on ocean acidification, including using this draft of ocean acidity over the past 25 million years. that's today minus 25 million years, today minus 20 million years, minus 15 million years, minus 10 million years, fine us five million years and now. look at how little variation there has been in ocean p.h. across that 25 million-year time scale. remember again we have been on the planet around 200,000 years. we go back to about here. the rest of this is geologic time. that is a long span of time. and you put against that what's happening now, look how sudden that change is in ocean p.h. the basic acidity of the oceans. why has this happened? we know, we know that human activity releases gigatons of carbon every year. that's undeniable. we know that that carbon dioxide acidifies seawater. that's basic chemistry. you can do that in a high school lab. we know that the ocean's p.h. is changing in unprecedented ways
