it at any rate i worked for john for five years at a time when there were almost no women involved working in the carter white house for two years as a cabinet secretary and then was a practicing lawyer in the dark years of the reagan administration. i could see many things he did write and then found the opportunity to run for congress where i had grown up and it was kind of daunting because they draw congressional line every 10 years. what i thought was a state democratic seat became a republican seat. i won against the odds. one of my opponents was maureen reagan the daughter of ronald reagan who was then retired and was helping her win however the california democratic party and chose someone else to be my opponent and that other person was far more conservative than not pro-choice. maureen reagan was pro-choice. it was the year of the woman and women double the number of seats in congress. two women were elected from my status senators dianne feinstein and barbara boxer and feinstein is still serving and there i was and it was a great ride. i was gagging on the partisanship and that is why i left.
