we have these tantalizing hints of john chapman. we know where and when he was born. we know more or less when he died on the wiki's can certainly be made that whoever is interred at the chapman appleseed gravesite in fort wayne is not john chapman. we are promissory notes and apple orders in his hand. we even have the wonderful trading post ledger back in warren, pennsylvania that shows chapman purchased two small histories shortly after crossing the alleghenies with his brother, daniel in nearly 1797. histories of what? priest royalty? ancient rome? ancient greece? it would be fascinating to know. there is no way to no one for showing. trying to penetrate the mystery needed almost irresistible as date, let's be honest, the sheer weirdness of its principal character. the mid-19th century historian ohio college have been the oddest dirt in our history and he was certainly every bit of that. i read in my book that he had the eye of a speculator, heart of a philanthropist, the courage of the frontiersman in wondering instincts of a nomad. in fact, and on the self canceli
