john collins is here to give us an update on our forecast. we were lucky. >> a few miles would have made a huge difference in the outcome of that storm. new england got hammered. there is still some residual snow on the backside of the storm. most of the storm is out to sea and out of the range of the u.s. radar. nova scotia is getting a lot of snow right now. we cannot reach it on the radar. you can see snow up in the state of maine. cape cod is still getting snow. 1,500 miles to the west in missouri and arkansas, oklahoma, texas, into nebraska, there is something new. it is a new storm. the entire weather pattern has shifted to make it easier for a nor'easter to develop. this storm was the leading edge of that. there could be several more this month. but it's a pattern is developing. >> a pattern for developing these things is out there. >> i do not think this storm will follow that group. at the end of the week, there is something that looks suspicious. we will have to see how it develops. >> thank you so much for the latest on the weather

we go to meteorologist john collins. >> there is still snow and rain in the area, still part of that storm the winter overnight last night. this morning at daybreak it was raining in baltimore, but the snow did have some minor accumulations up to the north of us. it made for a few slippery spots. further southed i and is concentrated on the eastern shore. some snow, rain mixed in especially when you get down south below ocean city. this is related to a development offshore that will become a nor'easter, not of a huge size, but it will effect the east coast more north of up towards new england. and right along the eastern seaboard, as opposed to us. the northwest winds feeding into that are going to provide us with plenty of cold and plenty of wind. we will talk about that coming up. >> dozens of accidents in the area, all winter long. one of the worst, a crash that killed a young math teacher early this week. the westminster community remembered his personality and his gift. sarah simpson has more on the memorial and the people that he touched in his short career. >> by all accounts,

for more on the forecast, meteorologist john collins, how is it shaping out? >> the sun is out, the wind has picked up and it is cold air. this clipper came through quickly. it was a rather small system. the eastern shore received the most. one inch and a half at stevensville. crownsville had 1.6. around baltimore, it was generally one inch or less. part of carroll county, north near westminster, went over one inch of snow. it was light and fluffy, but it made the roads very slippery. we will talk about the forecast in just a few minutes. >> thanks, john. a heartbreaking store out of frederick story -- two young sisters killed in a house fire, ages three and six. five others were taken to the hospital with injuries. we are continuing to follow the story and we will have video tonight. we now know the identities of two teenagers shot in edgewood. the 17-year-old and 18-year-old were shot in cunion park around 10:30 p.m. last night. cousins is being treated at shock trauma where he is in guarded condition. police are looking for multiple suspects. testimony resu

meteorologist john collins is tracking another potential winter storm. >> it is going to be a winter storm for some. it is focused differently. it will not be in your easter or anything like that. our temperatures will were not smart. it will probably be a rain maker of more than snow. the energy is up in iowa. the moisture is reaching into kentucky and tennessee right that is all rain. the snow is in the upper peninsula of michigan and minnesota. we may get some ice when it starts tonight. we will talk more about the details on the storms in the coming week in a minute. >> another disruption for service at bwi marshall. an airport shuttle was involved in an accident. we're told the driver and two passengers were on the bus around 6:30 this morning when it got stuck on the track. the driver was trapped for 30 minutes and had to be taken to baltimore-washington medical center along with a passenger. both suffered non-life- threatening injuries. the tracks were also damaged. fire crews in baltimore county are investigating a house fire. firefighters responded to providence road. crews

. >> now, your insta weather plus forecast with meteorologist john collins. >> another storm is coming in, but ahead of that, we are in great shape. the sun is out, and temperatures are in the mid-50's. in the west, we start to pick up clouds, and in the clouds there is some snow or rain depending on the temperature, that the air is drive. garrett county has a few indications of sprinkles or snowflakes. with the storm approaching and presidents' day approaching, into the city we have had some big storms. 1958, 11.5 inches of snow. the 16th, 28.1 inches of snow in 2003. a couple of smaller amounts, less than 10 inches in 1893 and 1960 four back on the 17th and 18th, and on the 19th, 1979, 6.4 inches of snow. so, statistically, this is the hot time for big storms. i mentioned these warm temperatures. we are well into the mid-50's. bwi is 56 degrees. on the boardwalk, 52. 54 at frederick. 30's at oakland. 40 and frostburg. here are the clouds associated with the next weather disturbance coming in. mostly sunny conditions and it is a beautiful day so far. the cold front is coming in. the t

. >> now, you're a 11 insta- weather-plus forecast with meteorologist john collins. >> we really have not had a sizable nor'easter develop this winter so far, but one is on the horizon. we are beginning to see the first elements move in the area. activity up in the clouds. this is not hitting the ground, except for a few little sprinkles and flurries down in the mountains. in the great lakes, a combination of either some snow or rain, depending on how far north or south you are. this is a to of the iceberg with what is going to happen in the next 24, 48 hours or so. we have had cloudy skies all morning, kind of holding the temperatures down a bit. south of washington and annapolis, meetings are around 40 degrees. in baltimore, we are in the mid- thirties. the airport is 35, and downtown at the inner harbor, 38 degrees. this is showing pretty good overcast deck we had with us. these clouds are coming up from the moisture on the southern component of what will eventually be at the northeastern. low pressure near mobile, alabama, off of the gulf coast. you can see the warm front drifting

. >> now your forecast with john collins. >> we look at the radar- satellite domination. the sun is beginning to break through on the south part of the storm. also some thin spots in the clouds just west of us. rain is on the eastern shore and pulling away, except part 2 of the storm in the great lakes. they are getting a combination of rain and snow. let's look at temperatures outside. we have warmed up in town. area.o the 40's in our you get up 1000 feet, frederick -- frederick is not quite 1000 -- 30's in western maryland. if it starts precipitating out there, it will be snow or close to it. here is our storm. there is even some thunder in this. just off of ocean city. this is all the moisture that is writing off of new england. part 2 of the storm -- again, these will be merging, and that is when this really gets going. all of this moister with and getting all morning will convert to snow and just sit as the storm intensifies over new england, and that will be the case through tomorrow. wide area of winter storm warnings. this is blowing through all the snow you have

. >> now your insta-weather-plus forecast with john collins. >> nice day, a little bit breezy.inds are gusting into the 30's. on radar, a few snow showers, and some cloudiness northwest of us. some of this lake effect-type snow, and what is grabbing everybody's attention with a bang-wise is this storm out of the plains states. it consists of action wh-- of snow in parts of nebraska and kansas. southern missouri, it is ice, and then it becomes a rain into louisiana. there is going to be a lot of the snow, possibly as much as a foot, as the storm moves towards the great lakes. i will talk more about this in a minute. let's look at what is going on right now. temperatures have jumped into the 30's, just above freezing in annapolis. still below freezing in parkton and westminster, and frederick, 34 degrees right now. when you factor in the winds, it feels like the 20's right now. because of the wind, it feels like six in oakland. here you see clouds, a few scattered clouds in the northeast corner of the state. here are the lake effect snows. generating some of the snow shower activ
