congressman john larson of connecticut, and congressman gerry connolly of virginia.reat to have you with us. i enjoyed visiting with all of you last night. i come from and i spend a lot of time in the state of minnesota where a bridge fell down and killed 13 people. so when the president talked about this last night, i knew exactly what he was talking about from covering that. the other thing is i bet i could go to alabama, go to virginia, go to connecticut, and i could probably find infrastructure that needs to be upgraded, bridges that are probably compromised at this point right now. and i chose this story tonight for this panel because isn't this something that republicans and democrats can agree on? john larson from ways and means, how could this be a roadblock? >> it shouldn't be a roadblock at all. and everybody agrees in their district that there is a drastic need for us to invest in infrastructure. we know that from the president's address when he was citing bridges. bill shuster, who is taking the committee on transportation has talked about the importance

john goldberg is working with dpw. and interfacing with the construction. and captain connolly is working directly with project managers. i can say that the design team has been involved the staff a lot. i mean, they've come by with presentations and samples and taken us over to the puc building to see what works, what doesn't work. so, i think it's been an interactive process. >> nor oriously construction projects get out of hand or go beyond budget. * notoriously bay bridge, fine example. do we have -- is department of public works, are we using a dispute resolution board on the side to make sure that, you know, this stays on track? what do we have to assure us that this is going to be built within budget? >> well, i know that dpw is very concerned about constantly staying on track and they have a very sophisticated project controls system that monitors the cost. in terms of the dispute resolution, i'd have to get back with you on that. >> that's okay. i'm more concerned around safeguards that we have in place to assure that we don't get, you know, 75% the way through and fin

john gonzales live at reagan national just one of many places that could feel the pinch. >> later this morning the virginia congressman and gerry connolly will be here at reagan national airport where there will be a big impact, including cuts from the folks who do the curbside checking to the folks all the way upstairs inside air traffic control. the clock is ticking. democrats and republicans are set to introduce proposals to stop the across-the-board spending cuts to the tune of $85 billion. some say reaching friday's deadline is nearly impossible. the president says thousands of teachers and educators would be laid off. parents will have to scramble to find new child care. air security would seek cutbacks. the cuts would even potentially shut down meat and poultry plants across the country. >> if this happens, i think the prices may go up a little bit of first, but the product potentially just will not be available. >> 5-7% cuts over the next seven months for government deployments. we understand we will not see the effects are least a month, but lawmakers say they will be harsh. reporting live it reagan national airport john gonzal
