[ cheering ] >> thousands of registered voters in l.a. county were not able to vote though when they showed up at their polling places. the registrar says that something happened with the sign-in books. they print for each polling place. a total of 118,000 names weren't included. those voters were offered provisional ballots instead. gubernatorial candidate and mayor antonio villaraigosa is calling on the registrar to extend polling hours through friday. >> in the course of the next day or two until we figure this out, we won't cast aspersions but we will demand answers. >> among tho , the fonz. actor henry winkler tweeted he was one of the voters left off the rolls. >>> it looks like crossing bay area bridges will get more expensive. nearly two-thirds of voters said yes to regional measure 3. it would raise tolls on state-owned bridges by $3 by 2025. it only needed a simple major

john cox from san diego is second at 20 percent. former los angeles mayor antonio villaraigosa is following at 13 percent. john chong and elaine easton are also running but they are not projected to make the top two tonight. tonight's race for the second spot will likely come down between these two, republican cox and the a rugosa, a democrat. cox has seen his popularity increase in the past few minutes -- months, since he was endorsed by trump. the a rugosa himself -- virago say has been wrapping up his campaign. we caught up with both as they cast their ballots. >> i encourage everybody to get out to the polls by 8:00 tonight. >> if people want better schools, they should vote. if they want to do something about good jobs, they should vote. >> if the polls are to be believed, i will be in the top two with mr. newsom. i think the polls are probably going to be accurate, we will see. >> the closely watched governor's race tonight as the votes come in. will be a democrat combat or will it be a democrat versus a republican. >>> it wil

gavin newsom, john cox. any surprise?hat's what we expected that john cox would take the sfleekd actually early on in the polling we actually thought many of us thought that mayor -- former mayor villaraigosa would do better. and i think in hindsight and politics is very much about hindsight he would have better served to sought the lieutenant governor position in this. one of the problems villaraigosa had going in is he angered teacher union in southern california. had been associatewood the charter schools. and that meant that public school teachers and their union which are powerful and spent a lot of money did not get behind him in this race. and as a consequence when you contrasted him with given newsom who had the lieutenant governor title behind him not that he was doing anything with it he was just hanging out. >> biding his time. >> waiting for brown to leave. that gave him the option. and republicans came into the race in a big way because they wanted somebody at least take the number two position and be in the
