joining us now, former nixon white house counsel and cnn contributor john dean and former federal prosecutorey toobin. jeff, this is a big deal? >> it's a very big deal, but it's not a surprise. it's a basic principle of libel law, is if cnn puts mr. a on the air and mr. a says mr. b is a child molester, mr. b sues us, we can't say oh, well, it was just mr. a who said that, we were just the transmission. that's what this case is about. fox said no, we didn't say that dominion is corrupt, the people we interviewed said that. the judge said first of all, some of these people, tucker carlson, maria bartiromo, lou dobbs among others, some of those did say that dominion was corrupt. but by putting rudy giuliani, sidney powell, making these outrageous false allegations on the air without allowing dominion to refute them, that's libel. and that's what fox is going to have to defend. and i don't know how they're going to defend it. i think it's a very good case for the plaintiffs. >> john, legally how difficult is it to prove individuals knew their statements were false or that they were intentional

joining us now is former federal prosecutor jeffrey toobin and former nixon white house counsel john dean and chief political correspondent dana bash. so jeffrey, committee vice chair cheney said that meadows' text messages leaves no doubt that the white house knew what was happening at the capitol january 6th. given what was laid out just now by the committee, do you think she's right? >> oh, absolutely. what really jumped out at me about these text messages, particularly with the ones from the anchors at fox news and donald trump jr., first of all, that they're a bunch of lying hypocrites because they've been downplaying this riot ever since. but putting that aside, what is incredible to me is that donald trump did nothing for hour after hour despite all his close allies begging him to do something. finally he makes this statement. and what does he say about the rioters? we love you. all of this evidence, you know, adds to the impression that donald trump was on the rioters' side on january 6th. and that is an incredibly chilling message. but that's what i got out of the evidence that c

what you have to look for now is who is going to be the cooperating witness like john dean was in thehat trump knew and when he knew it. and you are also going to see whether or not the committee actually grants immunity to certain people like roger stone who has already taken the fifth amendment, refused to testify. he will be put in a box, he could be, to either have to testify, not testify and then be held in contempt, or testify and then later be prosecuted for perjury. i think that you are also going to see testimony by former investigators or fbi investigators who will be kind of summary witnesses of all of the bank records and phone records that have been subpoenaed by the committee. what i would expect is a very coherent riveting compexpositio what they have found and that will be the most effective thing this committee can do. >> there has been several lawsuits against the committee as i'm sure you are aware, the latest one is from a trump ally which confirms that the panel is now going after bank records. how important is to you that the committee follows the money? >> i thi
