john dickerson is our cbs newske political director and anchor of "face the nation." well, john, as we just heard, what a difference an election makes. tell me, how is the race changed? what's the new framework? >> reporter: well, we've been talking about this race in terms of the establishment versus the outsider. but we should maybe look at it in terms of the ideology versus electability. if you look at the entrance polls in iowa, those who were asked, "who shares your values?" overwhelmingly they went for ted cruz. when people were asked, "who do you think can win in november?" the large share went to marco rubio. so going into new hampshire, ted cruz is saying "i'm the true consistent conservative, the keeper of the flame, rally to my light." marco rubio is saying "i can beat hillary clinton." >> pelley: it's a question of ideology and electability... tell me, where does this go from here? >> reporter: well, marco rubio did well in iowa, in part because he did better than expectations. the top tier, he is the alternative to cruz and trump, those expectations are ve

southern primary, south carolina, cbs news political director and "face the nation" moderator john dickerson er and what comes new. >> reporter: out is in in the new hampshire primary. in both, outsiders beat the republican establishment. on the republican side, donald trump had two victories. he trounced his closest opponent and opposition is more split than ever. now he heads to south carolina where he is ahead by double digits in the polls. on the democratic side, bernie sanders is running a crusade more than a campaign and that kind of a crusade requires huge numbers of foot soldiers. his victory in new hampshire showed that he could get them. he won across the board, even doing well among women voters, beating hillary clinton in a group that she should do well in. he'll get to sleep next door in vermont in his home tonight, which he'll need. he'll need that rest, because in south carolina, there are fewer liberal voters and there are more voters of color, a group that he has difficulty with. >>> john dickerson will moderate the next republican debate this saturday on cbs news. >>> a shi
