well, here's abc's john donvan. >> reporter: and so, down the aisle they went, the bride and her dadhe made for her because that's what he'd always said to his girls, all three of them when they were growing up. let me make your wedding dress when the time comes. and for the youngest, danielle, that time came at last. and yes, the dress, it was by dad, erin lucian. and all he had to do was read a book. because the thing is, he'd been making things all his life. he's in construction. but a dress? this was going to be a first. he used bedsheets to work it out and looked at youtube videos and asked for advice and shipped the sheets to danielle to do fittings online. and what a risk for her, right? but she trusted. >> i knew he's very creative thinker. and he would put 110% into it. so, i let him go for it. >> reporter: and he translated to dressmaking what he'd learned building houses. >> when you have plywood doing roofing and you're on a steep incline, you have to put supports and stuff. so, i did that with our silk. >> reporter: and then wedding day dawned. and danielle, whose father

abc's john donvan on the remarkable event. >> reporter: the ceremony at the white house today was for the retiring astronaut, a navy man, mark kelly. but the light shone more on the woman who sat in the front row. gabby giffords who sat there smiling in a way that made it awfully easy for the rest of us to contemplate everything she's been through. and isn't that what we wanted, back on that brutal day when a crazy man fired a gun at her head, almost within hours, reports were seshg lating that up in the hospital room, she was already communicating, picking through. easy to say, but in fact, they had to put her into a coma to keep her alive. three days before she could breathe on her own. it would be seven months before we would see her again. a brief drop-in for an important vote in congress where it was clear not just how much work she put in to be able to do this, but how much she had had to put in. but in a still image, it was there again today, in the moment where she embraced her husband, after first pinning a medal on his chest with her left hand. a smile that makes it easier f

but abc's john donvan has this heartwarming story. >> reporter: he's called daddy bear. it's what she holds on to when her dad is overseas. right now, he's in korea. but this started four years ago when he was sent out to afghanistan. daddy bear, always there. until this week when -- >> she was so upset when we didn't have him. >> reporter: it was on i-90 when the family pulled over briefly. somehow daddy bear got left behind. and when grandma realized that, she got on facebook. >> that's daddy when daddy's gone. she goes to bed with him every night. >> reporter: she put out the word. then, it was washington state's department of transportation that took up the mission. sending a twitter message to all of its employees out on the field. and sending these guys to go look out on the road. harry nelson and terry kukis, who went to look and actually found him. >> when we found that bear, it was exciting for us. >> reporter: and then, they drove nearly four hours to deliver daddy bear back home. >> daddy bear. >> reporter: where they got emotional themselves. >> when my daugh

well, abc's john donvan tells us. >> reporter: dude, we found the teddy bear.ge on twitter yesterday from two happy guys standing on i-90 near ellenberg, washington. terry kukes -- >> it's always hard for these little ones when they lose something like this, it means so much to them. >> reporter: and harry nelson. >> we didn't really think we'd find it. but we did. and we felt lucky. >> reporter: who had been out here, yes, looking for a teddy bear, specifically, to go back, this teddy bear, owned by a girl named justice, who got it from her dad four years ago when he went to serve in afghanistan. but this week, on a drive with justice and her mom and grandparents along i-90, west from a visit to idaho, daddy bear, as he had been named, fell out of the car during a roadside rest stop. tears everywhere back home, because daddy bear means so much, especially with real dad away again right now in korea. >> it means everything to her. i honestly didn't think that anybody would find him, i mean -- who finds a teddy bear laying alongside the road? >> reporter: so gra
