here's john donvan. >> reporter: for weeks now, the bathtub at the kleis household has looked a giant mailbox. and here's why. a facebook posting by chad kleis back in mid-february to his 400 or so facebook friends, mentioning that he had a son whose ninth birthday was coming up. a kid who, as he put it -- >> unfortunately, doesn't get invited to birthday parties or sleepovers. you see the bounce house? >> reporter: hunter kleis has autism. he almost never speaks. and aside from his little brother hudson, he doesn't have much kid companionship. some of that is because he has trouble connecting too. but hunter can read. >> he's actually 100% able to read everything that is given to him, he just doesn't have the ability to verbalize. >> reporter: and it was with that in mind, that his dad's facebook post also said this -- "i am asking for you to send him a birthday card." >> i really was hoping for 20 or 30 which would be a great success. >> reporter: but it went a lot farther than that. >> we've received well over 600 birthday cards, packages, private messages. >> reporter: from people
