the defense starts its case in the john edwards trial on the list of possible first witnesses, former sec chairman cot thomas and ex edwards torn wade smithe had wards, himself, will take the stand. he is charged, of course with using close to a million dollars in campaign funds to hide his affair with reel hunter while he was running for president. the defense is that while he did was wrong, it was not actually illegal. congressional hearings are now set for may 23rd a week from wednesday in the secret service scandal, senator joe lieberman, the chairman of the homeland security committee says there will be three questions that should come up in those hearings. the first: is the inspector general satisfied with the investigation investigation? is there any indication of prior bad behavior on behalf of the secret service that would have led to expectations that took place in cardajena? what are the plans to make sure this doesn't happen again? there is a new gallup poll showing a majority of americans, 54%, believe that gay and lesbian relationships are morally acceptable. 50% believe in gay marriage. this is up from levels as low as 40%
