she finished third in the iowa caucuses behind barack obama, john edwards, and some iowans xlantsds at the complained she was arrogant and detached. trying to change that this time right? >> she is trying to change that. the other thing was that she was so out organized by president obama, he just got so many more people to the caucuses that's where her organization is stepping in this time and they're trying to be a little more strategic certainly a lot more strategic you could say, than 2008p. sure she's coming in to iowa and showing some humility why she's rolling up on four wheels instead of coming in a plane and it's why she's having the small events. intriguing she's having events like you might see a really low tiered candidate just trying to get to know people start to have. she has a huge name recognition, everyone knows who she is but she's trying to start really small and show them she's listening to them and she's fighting for them and this is what her campaign says she wants to make it clear she's not taking any of their support for granted. >> we'll see what she does in t

third to john edwards. and so this is a signal we're told by supporters of clintons that she wants to campaign really aggressively for the nomination, which is kind of weird you might say because who else is really in the race against her? no one officially yet. she's so far ahead of other likely democrats in these polls. what's her message? that's really the big question. she's going to run as if she's a grandmother. that's our expectation. it was barack obama, then john edwards, then hillary clinton. what has changed since then?it's a different cycle, and it's a different hillary clinton and it's a very different field. hillary clinton right now is the prohibitive front runner. she's almost the expected nominee. and she was in 2007 as well, but what happened to her was barack obama, who came in ran a very savvy iowa campaign and launched himself to the white house. at this time hillary clinton does not face the same sort of strong field that she did in 2007. but she faces an iowa problem, which is how to run a campaign here and how to do it in a way that doesn't make her look like the inevitable nominee or the expected nominee but someone who's really going to compete and work for every vote as she said in her video. >> okay. so perhaps still an iowa problem, but what about a perk nia? let me turn to you. you wrote about this. this is a big deal. this is the first time she's really embracing, hey, i would be making history here. i would be the first female president. >> that's right. and if you look at that v

john edwards, citied -- ted stevens. you're alluding to the suspicion that perhaps mr.ez has been targeted because he has opposed administration on a number of crucial issues. i find very little evidence to support that but given how political the administration has been and can be in particularly the justice department, one can't rule it out. jon: chris wallace said the same thing when i spoke to him yesterday. yes, he's been a vocal opponent of the democratic president on the iran deal cuba deal immigration policy and all of a sudden, he finds himself under indictment by the obama justice department. >> you know this is not actually new and i do fault the news media for not making a bigger story of this. on the other hand, iran connection is very interesting. a guy that works for us went to prison because, in my view there was quote unquote, corrupt but he also was the only member of congress that spoke the language and did some back door communication with iran that he had gotten and suddenly the bush administration went after him. so this is not terribly surprising

likely nominee in 2008 came in 30th in the iowa caucus not just behind senator barack obama but john edwardshat we saw is her finally getting out. they had the road trip where she was taking the van, not quite cross country, but from new york to iowa and seemed like based on what she had put on social media, she didn't run into that many voters. you saw the photo of her at chipotle where she was behind sunglasses and didn't appear to interact with voters. her staff was happy to tell us she ordered a chicken burrito bowl. we didn't get information what she was pick up from voters. today was the first day at the community college. auto repair shop where people practice as they go through the community college in rural iowa and she laid out what her vision will be and what will be the underpinnings of this campaign, listen. >> i'm running for president because i think that americans and their families need a champion. and i want to be that champion. i want to stand up and fight for people so that they cannot just get by, but they can get ahead and they can stay ahead. >> remember, when she talk

you had john edwards, a vice presidential nominee and then chris dodd.more credible seasoned democratic field. frankly, the hillary clinton campaign is not that worried about the former maryland governor or bernie sanders from vermont or former senator jim webb. he said he may run. look if you look at our latest poll anderson she's at 62% among democrats. closest to her is joe biden. he's 47 points behind her. he's not going to run. he hasn't said that yet. elizabeth warren is 52 points behind her. she's not going to run. inside the clinton campaign they think this is hers to lose if she makes a mistake and creates an opening who knows but has to make the mistake for. as jeff said they want caution and control. >> there's some people worried she doesn't have anyone running against her. >> make a better candidate. >> and b, not to look so inevitable. inevitability didn't go anywhere last time. but when you're not really running against somebody, you don't test yourself in a lot of ways. >> she's running against herself, essentially. >> absolutely. that's

you had a lot of people in the primary field, john edwards would come with a plan and what will -- when do we get specifics -- no, really. >> first we have 19 months. >> i know. >> i'm just saying so, but let me talk you through the process. for her, i mean, she went through a pretty rigorous process starting around christmastime, even a little before that talking to a lot of different people, a lot of different policy people and went away at christmastime with a 500-page briefing book, came back, and she's got ideas, but part of the point of this process like she has thoughts about where she thinks we should go and the things we need to do, but as she said at the top of this event, part of the reason she wants to talk to people is to get their input, see what their questions are, so when she does start rolling it out, what you're hearing has the benefit of what she's heard, and to alex's point, i disagree a little, and to some degree i put this on the media. the media will have to work with us on some of this, and people didn't like it but understood what we were trying to accomplish.
