we begin with cbs2 news storm coverage with john elliott, john? >> reporter: all these steps taken along the shore, good ideas, because we are going to be dealing with nasty wind and rain and a chill today. look at this. readings top of the hour, just 49 in new rochelle, 51 in the city. so that is part of the story. it is uncomfortably cool. heavy rain filling in nassau out to suffolk county. you can follow that line down through and into parts of central new jersey. more of that will fill in. this is a coastal low, so you have the heavy rain bands anticipated, you have the pounding wind out of the northeast as well. that wind is elevating coastal flood concerns for connecticut all the way out through the twin forks. it is a flood warning for the jersey shore. now why? why is it a flood warning? a warning means we are seeing flooding right now, so obviously there are problems there with this kind of relentless wind and rain could see some beach erosion as well. as far as joaquin, it is a category 4 storm, slowly moving north at 3 miles per hour. t

john elliott will have the forecast in a moment. but first, the breaking news we have been following all morning, the death of a new york city police officer. a salute from fellow officers as the body of officer randolph holder was taken from harlem hospital early this morning. janelle burrell is live in east harlem with the latest on the investigation. >> reporter: yeah, chris, we continue to see detectives show up at the scene here on east 120th street and the fdr drive where officer randolph holder was gunned down here last night. police commissioner bill bratton made the announcement about his death at harlem hospital. he says the 33-year-old and fellow officers were responding to shots fired near east 102nd street around 8:30. witnesses saw a bunch of men running from the scene. at least one of them with a gun. and officer holder and his partner tried to corner that suspect. the suspect allegedly shooting officer holder in the head. that suspect was hit as well in the leg. he is in custody expected to be charged later today. an

let's turn it right over to meteorologist jon elliott with john? >> reporter: rain in the city and more rain to the south that wind for the afternoon and evening hours in and around our 52 chilly degrees. 46 to 52, that is your spread. numbers are not going to warm numbers are not going to warm up much at all. we mentioned light rain in the city in rockland, westchester fairfield counties. out to the twin forks. and there is more, even with some breaks into parts of jersey. heavier rain is already filling in for parts of delaware. slowly moving our way. wind will intensify. we are concerned about flooding along the jersey shore. could see more widespread flooding around the city and long island this afternoon. winds could approach 50 miles per hour, those would be gusts. this is an area of low pressure, not affiliated with joaquin. joaquin moves out to the north and east, and we actually don't anticipate many problems, that is monday into tuesday. mary? >>> john thank you so much. >>> in case today's storm does bring high water to the city, crews i
