as many of you know, i've written a lot of biographies of john f. kennedy, kennedy and nixon. i don't mind saying, buy these books. they're the best i've written. but back in '96 i had the opportunity to interview the 35th president's son, john f. kennedy jr who was once thought to be the heir to his father's political legacy, that was before his tragic death in 1999. here's a bit from that interview. >> i want to ask you about fun. i think you are trying to bring fun back into politics. it's been missing for about 25 years. people used to say when they worked for president kennedy in the white house. they had a great time. people loved politics. it was a positive thing. and that's been missing. >> yeah, i mean, i think it's like anything else. if, you know, the trick is catching people's attention. and the only thing that people see are a bunch of men fighting on television all the time, or negative commercials on television, or acerbic editorials, they'll turn their attention somewhere else. we wanted to bring some fun, some levity, but be serious-minded at the same time. >>
