. >> senate majority leader harry reid enjoying the dramatic change in direction today from the house speaker john immigration reform. and we're back now with the panel. well, last week, house republican leaders had their caucus and they released a set of standards for comprehensive immigration reform today, as you heard, house speaker john boehner said it would be difficult to push any immigration reform this year. george? what happened? >> well, i think they are rethinking the whole idea of comprehensive. we are waste deep in the big muddy of comprehensive healthcare reform. now they want to do comprehensive immigration reform. i will show you what it looks like. that big boy is the senate immigration bill. it's 1197 pages long because it answers every conceivable question. it tells you what should be the hourly wage of an immigrant, animal sorter in 2016, $9.84 if you are wondering about it. everything. this is how we used to do things. this is the homestead act of 1862, settled the american west. it was immigration bill. it was designed to attract immigrants. to be fair the copy and the parchm

it's sort of like you have barack obama and house speaker john boehner now on one side with nancy pelosi and harryy? >> it's interesting because the president gave his state of the union speech back in january for this free trade agreement. the next day harry reid, the leader said i'm not for it. the very next day. the reason democrats are opposed is because of labor. labor unions believe this is eventually going to cost democratic workers, american workers jobs. i think that's a big problem for democrats. they had into the mid-term elections. they don't want to be seen as supporting anything that could cost american jobs. whether this take away authority from the congress, they don't like that. this agreement would not allow amendments to any trade packs. they kind of like to put restrictions on trade packs and democrats are not in favor of it for that reason. >> okay. other big issues whether the president is fighting his own party. democrats are pushing the new sanctions against iran which he is a posed to that and possible changes in social security and the upcoming budget proposal. the democr
