. >> al jazeera's john hedron joins us fromchy. how worried are they about the low price of oil there? >> well, another day, another dollar. it is now down below $29 a barrel. and that is a 12-year low. people in the industry are very concerned that effects the shale industry here in the u.s. and of course it effects the oil industry all around the globe. and there is not a lot of hope in that rising any time soon. at least according to the international energy agency who said that the world could drown in supply if things don't change in the short term. iran's sanctions have now ended and they're going to increase productions 500,000 barrels a day that county says. to put this in perspective, i in 2012 when the last sanctions were increased on iran, oil was going for that at $109 a barrel. now it's below $29, and not showing signs of turning around any day soon. >> some of the big oil companies that have to close town some of the projects that they had in the pipeline presumably that has an effect on some jobs. tell us about the u

john hedron spoke to the teachers about their concerns. >> in detroit this is where young minds are molds, falling ceiling tiles and rodents. >> it's not safe and not where you would want to be educated. >> the schools are so run dawn that teachers felt they had to call a strike, a violation against state law. >> i'm not above walking out of here if this is what is right for kids. >> there could an strike eventually. >> there could be eventually. i'm not going to lie about it. but right now i don't feel in is a time. >> even though there is a michigan law against it. >> an unjust law is no law at all. >> the detroit teachers have launched a series of sick-outs calling in ill and shutting down schools. when school managers asked for a retrainin restraining order to stop the sick outs, a judge said no. and the teachers go on. >> we are teach whose love our kids, and because that have we're disrespected and we are tired. >> it's a confrontation rich with politics. the public education system in this majority black relybly democratic city is run by emergency manager darnell early appointed by

john hedron, what new things are you seeing at the show there? >> this is preview week.f you see someone who is well dressed in a briefcase, they're auto industry people. the people without ties are mostly journalists. right now i'm in the german sector. you see bmw and behind them is mercedes bend. you can see porsche behind me and vw has been making a lot of news lately. what we have right here is a concept car. that's generated excitement because it's a long wheel-based car that may have a hybrid version. they're not sure about that yet. that is one of the things that has generated excitement. we have heard more about the car and truck of the year. the interesting thing here is that despite it's happening in detroit, in north america, the winners were none of them, the honda civic was the car of the year. and the volvo xp 90 was the truck of the year. the chevy malibu and the volvo beat out the nissan titan and the honda pilot. we're walking around and getting a look at all the cars. we're seeing low gas prices, we're seeing gas-guzzling u.s. muscle cars, we're also s
