joining us now are colorado john hickenlooper and ohio republican john kasich. governor, i want to start with you, the two of you have joined together in an effort to try to fix the health care problem that in washington so far congress has not been able to fix. there are lot of plans for fixing health care is this a problem of people not finding the right plans or political problem? >> i think it's more a political problem. the key here what governor kasich and i have been talking about get a bipartisan group of people together, include some governors, the people who have to implement these plans and look at how do we stabilize private markets. how do we deal with these, look what they have been doing but there's some basic health care without throwing everything out the window. >> dickerson: governor kasich, one of the ways that you build a bipartisan agreement is one side gives up a little, the other side gives up a little. we've seen in washington both sides say they don't want to give up much of anything. give me your sense of what republicans should back d

and i want to tell you, john hickenlooper, he's terrific, his staff has been terrific.as worked well together. and we think we have a document that is absolutely a framework for how to get through this mess and move on. >> when i hear everyone will be happy with health care, i am a little skeptical, i will tell you that from the past, but governor hickenlooper, you're aware that the harris, democratic senator, is now going to co-sponsors bernie sanders medicare for all when it's introduced in september. what is your case to make to democrats to say don't go that direction, go this direction that i am putting forth with governor kasich? >> well, the single payer, especially at this moment in history, it's hard to see it getting traction in congress. and what we're proposing here is admittedly incremental, it's not going to transform the entire health care system in one swoop, but it is going to allow us to stabilize the private markets. allow us to begin the innovation that john kasich is talking about of really stepping forward and allowing states that ability to innova

we sat down with john hickenlooper to see what he thinks makes the colorado success story path will endwant to take his message from colorado to america. >> well, colorado zip place where people naturally collaborate and work together because people from all over the country, all of the world. the history of the mountain west with the wagon train were grown under work together. our employment rate is to .3% with amazing influx of young people that are starting businesses and creating a stronger economy. and we get rid of regulations and talking about that all the time. and the environmental community working together to get a share of result. leland: dare i say >> shoe is for democrats. leland: she raced toward democrats. fair to say, you were a different kind of democrat. you don't hear the identity politics first from you or your administration. we don't hear climate, climate, climate from your administration. we hear jobs, infrastructure, economic growth matched with those things. explain that here's >> so we look at things like climate, send i'm not saying it's right or wrong. >> se

obviously there was some fun speculation about 2020 bubbling up, and the idea you mentioned john hickenlooper, the governor of kal that you two are working together to kind of come up with a bipartisan fix here on these state exchanges and the health care law in general. and somebody floated the idea that it could be a 2020 unity ticket. could you imagine yourself leaving the republican party to do something like this? >> chuck, look. kasich hickenlooper. first of all, you couldn't pronounce it and secondly, you couldn't fit it on a bumper sticker. who r here is what i do want to say. >> that's not a denial. just because you can't put it on -- >> the answer is no. here is what i do want people to think about this. because hickenlooper and i work together, sin iks out there say well, they want something. because we want to stabilize health care and milwaukee sure that poor people have something, is people assume there's a motive. you know, sometimes people actually do things because they're trying to help somebody. and when we do that everybody ut want to say what's in it for them. this growin

john hickenlooper, governor, and i are making plans that we hope to present to the people of the senatere getting closer and close ore to an agreement. have you to do this in a bipartisan way. the thing you have to do is stabilize those insurance markets. if you take away payments you're going to create chaos. we can't have that. stabilize markets first. let's not worry about medicaid at this point. let's get medicaid, social security and medicare, in terms of a package, to deal with the rising debt we have in this country and do that in a responsible way. there's ways to get this stuff done, jake. believe me. i've been there. i saw us reform welfare and balance the budget. i saw us reform the pentagon. we can do it if people just get off their political soap boxes and begin to think about the country. we all get old and we all leave this planet. we're going to be judged in many ways by what we did when we were here. stop playing games. it just doesn't make any sense. do something. be bigger than yourself. live a life bigger than yourself. that's where we need to go in washington. that'
