you will not be able to read the name of that statute, but this is a statue of john howard pain, who wrote a song in the 19th century called "home sweet home." it was part of a play that he wrote in the 1820's were 1830's, and it was a song from the play. it became tremendously popular in the 19th century. so much so that it was sung during the civil war. the troops saying it. it finally got to a point where the general on both sides discouraged the troops from singing it. because if they did a lot of people would wake up and there would be a whole a lot of deserters who went home. so, the generals would not let them sing. payne did a lot of things, not only a playwright, and actor, a writer, but he was appointed counsel general for the united states to northern africa and he served in tunisia for many years, and he died in the late 1850's, i believe. he was buried in tunisia. this statue was put up in his honor. about 1880, our friend mr. corcoran thought that his remains should be at oak hill cemetery. he made arrangements to ship, to exhume the body, ship the remains and the statu

ly say i think howard dean did a fantastic job when he was dnc chair. i was a huge fan of johnerry. he took a 50-state strategy. whoever the next dnc chair is, i think that has to be the approach. we have to develop a message for the entire country. we have to recruit candidates all across the country, build an organization that looks at this in its totality. i think howard dean did a good job of that when he was the dnc chair. i also think that our dnc chair should be a full-time position. i've heard several members of congress names floated. i just -- being a member of congress and being dnc chair is a lot to ask, particularly when you're the party out of power. we need a full-time dnc chair who is focused on getting out our message broadly. it's also worth noting that as last count, somewhere around 7 million fewer people voted in 2016 than voted in 2012. which shows our party has to do something to appeal to people and get them out to vote. we lost something in those four years. we got to get it back, get community people of color, millennials, new voters. we've got to get

howard chandler christy. i found one version of it on a website that turned out to be very interesting, the john ashbrook center -- teachingamericanhistory.org. you can see it on the screen. we will show that painting. it's interesting. i just happened on to this. you move your cursor on the individuals, you can see who they are, and then when you go inside, they have backgrounds of each individual. why did you talk about this particular thing in your book? prof. larson: the session was closed. the reporters, there were no painters. the curtains were all closed. this was the signing. this is a classic ceremonial painting commissioned during the depression. it hangs in the house of representatives. so, he takes all of the people and composes it in a glorious celebratory scene, and so i finished talking about what happened, and then i say this painting was painted to capture how people envisioned it. they choose to make it that way. that is how people thought it was. actually, if you went back and followed it closely, it would be more morrison, madison, maybe hamilton, roger sherman certainly playing major roles.
