study from johns hopkins university reveals those popular weight loss centers that so many use may not be helping. dr. jennifer ashton is here with the details. so, what's going on here, jen? >> so, robin, if you are overweight or obese and in my office, i would likely counsel you about the importance of losing weight and then might likely refer you to one of these weight loss centers to help you because this is an ordeal. so what this study did is they kind of went behind the an urban area of medical weight loss centers and what they found, they didn't do so well. there is a lot of room for improvement. one of the findings was about 1% only follow the actual medical guidelines in helping patients lose weight. fewer than one in three are actually supervised by a physician, and only about 3% are recommending the proper amount of physical activity. so, again, not such a good report card here. >> these are shocking numbers. >> yeah. >> why are they not following the requirements? >> we don't know. i mean, my take on this is a number of possible explanations. number one, a center may choose deliberately to pursue their own approach, which is fine as long as you're transparent
