reporter: i was just told by the police that they have called off the large-scale search they had in progress for the last several hours. they tell me that the detectivetives will continue tracking the suspect. he has not been taken into custody. let's show you some video. this is video of the police car that the suspect shot at. you can see there are multiple bullet holes in the windshield of the car. police say this started at 6:30 this evening when the officer pulled over the vehicle and she learn it was stolen. shortly after that the suspect started firing at the officer. she was not hit and she returned fire. the gunman then sped off, and abandoned the car. he then tried to take control of another vehicle. that did not -- that was not successful. benecia police with the help of other agencies encircled a large area for several hours but just called off the large-scale search. the person they suspect is still armed. >> we're assuming he is armed because he shot at the officer. however, since he has fled, and has not been located, we don't know if he still has the gun in his possession or if he got rid of it. >> reporter: there was a woman and a child in that car with the suspect during the traffic stop. benecia police say the woman and child are safe. they're actually at the police department, and police do tell me that they don't know if that suspect is is live with the latest. >> reporter: i was just told by the police that they have called off the large-scale search they had in progress for the last several hours. they tell me that the detectivetives will continue tracking the suspect. he has not been taken into custody. let's show you some video. this is video of the police car that the suspect shot at. you can see there are multiple bullet holes in the windshield of the car. police say this started at 6:30 this evening when the officer pulled over the vehicle and she learn it was stolen. shortly after that the suspect started firing at the officer. she was not hit and she returned fire. the gunman then sped off, and abandoned the car. he then tried to take control of another vehicle. that did not -- that was not successful. benecia police with the help of other agencies encircled a large area for several hours but just called off the large-scale search. the person they suspect is still armed. >> we're assuming he is armed because he shot at the officer. however, since he has fled, and has not been located, we don't know if he still has the gun in his possession or if he got rid of it. >> reporter: there was a woman and a child in that car with the suspect during the traffic stop. benecia police say the woman and child are safe. they're actually at the police department, and police do tell me that they don't know if that suspect is injured. again, they are continuing tracking him with the detectives. however the large, scale search has been called off. reporting live, abc-7 news. >> ama: a september 11th hero was honored in san francisco today. a community center was named after betty ong, the flight attend canned on board one of the planes that crashed into the world trade center. lisa amin gulezian has the details. >> i would like to proclaim today, in recognition of this event, the center, and the naming of it, betty ann ong, chinese rec center in san francisco. >> the 24,000 square foot center is a symbol of hope, strength, and inspiration, named after betty ann ong who died september 1st on american always 1 when it crashed into the tower of the world trade center. >> she was the first voice to alert the world of the attacks. >> ong hid in the back of the plane, picked up a crew phone and called a reservations desk. >> the cockpit is not answering the phone, and
