johnson county had a special election to fill a supervisors position in 2013. that year, six point seven percent of registered voters turned out... or about six thousand voters. republican john ethredge won. as kcrg-tv9's mark carlson explains, it's an expensive process for so few people to show up. "holding a special election here in johnson county will cost tax payers somewhere in the 40 thousand dollar range." voting booths were quiet throughout the special election supervisor race in johnson county. at one precinct in iowa city only three people voted tuesday. "well you're always disappointed, it's the opportunity the people have to pick the people that are going to represent them and you hope that people will avail to that, but people just didn't do that yesterday. " johnson county auditor travis weipert says the county has done a lot in recent years to try to increase voter turnout. including registration drives, increasing they've even created a roving vote mobile that can park pretty much anywhere from a grocery store parking lot to a high school football game. and weipert says while some people think a special election by mail would boost the vote, he says it might
