i was struck earlier today by senator doug jones of alabama, who suggested that even if for some reason you can't get johnoena his book and try to obtain the information that way, which struck me as kind of an odd approach to it. but i think people are starting to get creative now, thinking both in terms of how the white house and republicans might try to deep this stuff bottled up but also ways the democrats might try to pry some of this stuff loose. how advanced are those conversations among you and your colleagues? >> i think it's a great idea that we get the manuscript, but really the best evidence is john bolton himself, and that's where we should start, where we can have him. we can ask him questions and again he'll be subject to cross-examination because certainly the president's defense counsel have a right to cross-examine him as well. so let's bring him forward, and then everyone can test their theories, including his ability to tell the truth in an unbiased way. but let's start with the witnesses, and chuck schumer was right to send the letter immediately outlining four witnesses that we need t

jones hitting a record 29,000 for the first time a bit earlier today. you see it a bit below that. now, christine romans here to break down the numbers. christine? >> john going to call it a solid end to the year. not sizzling, but solid. 145,000 net new jobs created, and we saw november-december revise down just a little bit. where is the hiring? 3.5% unemployment rate, still that low, low generational unemployment rate, trade, health care. this is about 400,000 jobs for the whole year in health care, manufactured those stumbled again. the manufacturing job growth barely positive for the year in total on manufacturing jobs, and when you look at some of the output numbers that we watch, it's probably a manufacturing recession right now. it's the december jobs report, so we get the picture of the whole year. 2.1 million net new jobs for the year. that's a little bit shy of what we saw in 2018. that was probably the president's tax cuts boosting that, but it's in line with 2017 and really on par for the last seven or eight years. it doesn't approach some of the best years of the obama administration. when you watch these numbers, we also really look at wa
