john kasich was on 45 minutes ago.g the case that you have to make it attractive to moderate democrats in the house because ultimately you have to get this thh congress. what would you do, what would be your idea? >> i'm not sure i agree with him that you'll get moderate democrats. i'm not sure we'll get democrats at all. whether that's good or bad we can debate it but i don't think it's realistic to have them participate. you need the moderate republicans. you can redesign the tax credits that gives better support for some of the older workers. that has been a concern. you can look at the medicaid expansion and sort of scale it back slower than it does in the house bill. there are some things i think are very sensible tweaks to the house bill. a good starting point. was never going to be perfect and can bring moderates on board. that's probably what the senate is working on now. >> bill: do you think the senate makes progress on this in the near term or what would be your time frame, doug? >> i think that what you'll

joining me now, republican governor john kasich of ohio, author of the new book two paths, which will the best sellers list. thanks for joining me. you've called the bill woefully inadequate and very disappointing. what in your view is wrong with the bill? >> well, first of all, jake, in the area of medicaid, they are going to eliminate medicaid expansion. and i cover in ohio 700,000 people now, one-third of whom have mental illness, drug addiction, and one-quarter of whom have chronic disease. in 2020 that program was frozen and people psyche of off that program. i don't have a problem with frying to move the medicaid expansion which gives an enhanced match from the federal government to a more traditional match. but you can't do that overnight. so what happens to those people? well, they go over on the exchange. now, here is the problem with the exchange. they give you about $3,000 or $4,000 tax credit to buy health insurance. what do you think you can buy for $3,000 or $4,000? do you know what the deductible would be in that in and in addition to that, for people who have these cha

the last guy standing against him were ted cruz and john kasich, both ted cruz and kasich dropped out of the race by the first week in may. ted cruz was out i think on may 3rd. kasich on may 4th. at that point there were still a lot of primaries and caucuses left. everything from indiana and nebraska and west virginia to new jersey and california, oregon, washington. when a primary campaign ends early like that, when somebody basically runs away with it, it's an interesting strategic question how the prufrpt noichl treats those remaining contests. once you vanquished all your rivals, do you keep running in those remaining states? do you make a show of competing for those contests when you really are the only one left? i think oftentimes the answer to that depends on whether the candidate thinks that he or she has a chance at winning those states in the general election too, so even once the primary is settled if there are competitive states, swing states left on the primary cal, that's a great reason for them to get additional candidate visits, get additional political attention. on t
