and joining me now is john kasich. thanks for joining. i read your op-ed.s in "the wall street journal" and it's titled i tip my cap to joe manchin. tell us why you're tipping your cap to him. >> well, don, we always say that we want politicians to follow their own conscious, and a lot of times when they do, if it goes against the grain of what people expect of them, they get criticized. he has been demeaned by a number of people since he wrote that piece that he wasn't going to support getting rid of the filibuster and a couple other things. today i've got a lot of people commenting about what i wrote. but i've had republicans attacking me. so i mean, we always want people to stand up and take charge. but then a lot of times when they do, if we don't happen to like it, we attack them. and it's happened to me a number of times when i took positions different than my party, expanding medicaid, trying to write my own budget, to balance the budget. the list goes on and on. not endorsing trump. going to the democratic convention. criticism comes with it. and i

john kasich. john, good evening. thanks for joining. let's get into this.d i both like to run our mouths and we don't get to everything. not a single republican vote. even though the bill included voter i.d. and other things the gop wants isn't clear that the republicans want -- i should be clear i should say, excuse me, that the republicans want no part of it. >> there was no voter i.d. in that bill, don. the manchin bill has a voter i.d. and we've got to see whether the manchin bill will come. the manchin bill is very reasonable. it says, you know, a little bit of early voting you have to have voter i.d. and declare the election day a national holiday. if the democrats were smart, they would put that on the floor. that bill, that manchin bill you've heard mr. clyburn speak favorably about it and stacey abrams has spoken fairly about and it's very, very difficult for that bill to go down on that kind of a party line vote because i think it's far more reasonable than hr 1 and will help solve the problem and is a real efforted bipartisanship. >> they don't w

>> stand by and bring in the chief domestic correspondent jim acosta and senior comment tatder john kasich. governor kasich, what former president trump wants to be reinstated as president would be a coup. in effect. what is your reaction to that? >> it's just all so dangerous, wolf. what you are doing is people out there, they have these conspiracy theories. and now you have these people who quote have some standing who are shedding some sort of, oh yeah, this could happen. it is so amazing to me and it is so dangerous. and it's affecting so many parts of our country and not just politics but i'm told even in the churches in many congregations across this country pastors under great fire and criticism because they don't seem to bow to the qanon or to the extremists that are in their pews. it's just an amazing thing. russell moore who ran the southern baptist convention left there. he's spoken about the fire that the pastors are facing. so it's affecting not just politics but it's affecting so many other things that every time a theory like this comes out and somebody goes and affirms it a
